Weird knots/pinset

Hi all,

I have a shoebox which is creating some weird growth. The pin set seems like it will be good, but I am worried that it is creating blobs which I would like to avoid.

It is cubensis “Cambodian” spawned to coir at 1:1.5 with a 1qt top layer, compressed very hard. I am aware the spawn ratio is low which makes me think it is blobbing but idk.





Do these look like they are blobbing? If so, Is there anything I can do to fix it for a second flush (casing etc?).

Another question, is it ever worth bottom watering to support a larger pinset?

Either way it's not much to do about it now. Just LITFA and get back to us in a couple of days or so :rockon:

Great advice, I do need to just LITFA. This is my first shoebox back after 3 years which makes it hard to do!

Hard to tell, but the surface looks like it has moisture, if it does leaver be, if a little dry, light fine misting and let the spray float down to the sub very gently, and check the condition of the sub surface.  For me, it's usually the corners just a little dry for my liking, so not much is needed to get the web of beads back in order.

If you feel the need to mist, I agree with MushluvR on how to do it, that said I don't really see any benefit of doing it ones the pinset is there, so I would just let it ride for now :awedance:

Right, definitely get your sub in order beforehand, you shouldn't be touching anything when pins are setting in.  This means your conditions are fine poppin' pins, a great sign you are well on your way to success.  As long as your surface has beads... let it RIDE!

Yes but not on your first flush. Let it colonize completely first.

Update : the pins are growing slowly but still looking weird and with wispy white caps. I think it is because tje spawn was bacterial which is a bummer. Anyways will see how it goes.
