Can confirm that these are definitely semps. I am running this same line again from RR right now. In ideal conditions they look as beautiful as RR's. In typical lazy tub conditions, they look exactly like every other line of semps when run side by side.

Some of my pretty ones:

Some lazy ones from the same LI jar.

so

what does that mean for cultivating subtropicalis, more FAE than most people give?

and

do they like the exact same conditions for fruiting as tampanensis?  what differs?

Never grew Tamps so can't compare but Semps seem to LOVE it wet. I misted 2-3 times a day till the water was literally dripping off the caps. Ehxausted CO2 3x/hour

:whathesaid:
If you want them pretty, more air and more moisture. I am never around enough to mist every day during the long fruiting cycle, but the more often I mist the prettier they are. They can take it right up to the point of not having standing water. How much air exchange depends on environment. My dry desert air makes it difficult to give them all the air they want without drying in tubs. For the prettiest phenos a dialed in tent or dreamer tub is probably the best bet.

Don't get me wrong that they need all of that. I still get plenty of super potent weighty flushes with more simple tub grows and misting when I can. They just don't come out looking as well formed as outdoor grows in ideal conditions or as RockinRobot's master pieces.

I got clean clonal culture (from invitro pin) on agar, ready to inoculate new jars

should I just make new spawn with this clone?

should I spawn these jars?

are they too old to bother fruiting? just make gummies with them?

Agreed. Low risk to send it to bulk and you might just get some shrooms. Probably will need a spoon or screwdriver to dig those grains out.

Re: Official Ps. Subtropicalis/Semperviva Thread [Re: Generic]

I have done both, spawned really old grains and made gummies with old myceliated grains. The old spawn will fruit with a little love but grains can be used to make a fairly potent extraction, too. Grain extractions are harder to work with and less potent than fruit extractions generally, but neither option is a bad one.

Buried somewhere in my myceliated grain potency over time thread I calculated that you can reach a point where you can pull more actives from the grain than from a typical first flush of fruits. That conclusion needs some more follow up to confirm or deny, but it was interesting imho.

So it is really up to you on which path you choose to follow. There is no certain best answer, ime.

Edit to clarify:
The grain spawn is always less potent by weight, but you get a lot more weight of grain than mushrooms, so in the final extraction you get more actives from the grain spawn than from the first flush of fruits. Just in case it looks like a contradiction in the statements above. If you can keep getting more flushes, I believe that the mushrooms will generally deliver more overall actives by the second or third flush.

that sounds about right, thanks for that

and subtropicalis can give many flushes and take up lots of time in the FC, when I could have a fresh clone going in a month,

I guess i was wondering about the performance of fruiting such old grains, when i guess they might make the best grain gummies

Is it still thought to be beneficial to let subtropicalis grain spawn 'consolodate' or, wait a while after full colonization, before spawning?

these jars seem pretty well and alive, pinning in the jars and all, but i cant fit everything in the FC.  i've got old tamps and fresh pans and i cant decide what to spawn first in the new martha.

I don't think it helps with fruiting to go way beyond full colonization of the grains. I usually just spawn them when they are ready and I have space, but they don't seem to mind sitting around for a long time until you have space for them.

If grow space is at a premium, they do have the benefit of skipping the grow to get some actives while you give your pans and tamps those resources. Having too much good spawn is a pretty nice problem to have, though.

So it's been awhile since I've grown these bastards and these were the only ones I did any pasteurizing for. Just the cactus soil casing, but I forgot how long I should do it for. I use my food dehydrator, was always successful doing it but I can't remember if I baked the soil for 4 or 8 hours. Anyone here got some insight? If not I'll have to scour through the shroomery again to find the comment that gave me the idea like two years ago lol

Interesting to say the least - so cactus soil in a dehydrator for 4hours at say 70c.

This is handy knowledge
