First attempt using grains...have a quart jar of millet 23 days old that looks clean, shaken twice and looks close to being ready.  There's a small amount of water pooling at the bottom which I assume is a vector for contaminents correct?  I will probably send it anyway but what are your thoughts about the water?

I have never used millet. I am assuming you are talking about a jar that is colonizing?

When i had rye berries in a bag that was really wet, the issue i had was it just didnt want to colonize the wet part/corner. You should have seen the yellow enzymes it was sending to deal with it.

Decided to scoop the uncolonized part off and though it was white it still felt mushy. Then that tub I put it to ultimately went green.

Send it anyway but expect troubles. Frankly that's a good way to learn. I don't know much about millet but with rye it took a few goes and some careful attention to get my hydration where I wanted it. Have fun!

—- first time grower ——-
What would you do?
Have 3 bags spawning.
Getting worried its taking too long.
- at inoculation I didnt get the agar pieces spread properly.
- Not much happened for 2 weeks. a bit at the top only
- I did a break and shake day 14.
- defo worked and was looking good
- Now at day 22 they have grown and are  growing but is still too slow?  heard after a shake and break 100% should happen in 7-10 days … no where near it at 8 days.
- Been in perfect temp in small room the whole
time.
Wondering should I do another break and shake on that one thats heavy on bottom only.

Is there anything im missing? Or just leave em and hope for the best? They can dry out by week 6 yeah and then im screwed?

Thanks for any help.
lol #mistakes - am i being over cautious again?

The jar in your gallery was pooling,
cause it has wet spot.
Honestly i wouldn´t spawn that to bulk.

Btw you can add pics here also:

Bags inoculated with agar take a shitton of time to fully colonize,
unless you throw like 20 agar slices in there.
LC or LI prefered for that for more inoculation points.
You need patience.

Do any albino strains actually produce spore prints if you put them on black paper?

A lot of them are crosses with PEs which really neuter spore production.

But I have Gemini (iso of Iceberg, albino Thai Lai Lippa) and Albino Jedi Mind Fuck. I don't have them growing now, but I'm curious if they actually produce viable prints of if it is swab only.

My go to is the 100mm Pyrex dishes. I don't think they are vented, but I have not had any issues. They take awhile to get the return on investment, but it's nice to have something that lasts forever:mushroom2:

Used to use 90mm cell treats that worked nicely, though was bothered by the trash they created.

Thanks!

So i guess thats why people do LC then.

Ill wait. Just worried cause heard after 6 weeks bags dry out.

Is it because my humidity cycles 37-43%?

Thanks again

Yes to the first.
I don't think you're being over cautious. You're proceeding with the appropriate amount of caution in this new circumstance that you've never dealt with before.  You're definitely over thinking it though :mushroom2:

Yeah, looking like that is bacterial. For future reference with millet, it's normal for a little bit of condensation to appear in the jar. Here's a picture of a clean spawn jar, sporting a small amount of condensation that is a non issue.:mushroom2:

I'm debating whether to use a monotub or several shoebox for my first attempt at cultivation. Are there in differences between the two teks in terms of yields, contamination or colonization time?

Several shoeboxes is smarter from a contamination perspective: you're less likely to lose everything when it happens. The yield will be ever so slightly lower compared to a monotub if i remember correctly, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I don't. Good luck friend

Shoeboxes are great. Monotubs are huge and needs lots of spawn, shoeboxes are can use one jar of spawn.

So if it's your first time contamination could be an issue. Get a few shoeboxes and put one jar to each box, if you get contam oh well dump it and you still have other shoeboxes chugging along.

If the monotub goes south, it's back to square one/a few months more waiting.

I thought I needed a monotub but I love my shoeboxes. You will have lots of mushrooms either way.
