But tree frog said her fruits are bigger on a deeper smaller tray.

Hows your total yields ms tree frog if you make one deeper tray and one wider tray with same genetics and substrate do you think?

I have two 6 qts that were spawned at 1/4 ratio, or 1pt of spawn to 2 quarts, sub depths of 2.25 - 2.5 with casing (1/8th inch).  I also have a bag that is over 3 inches deep (without casing), low spawn rate (leftovers), and CV+ extras as well.  I don't think sub depth is as important as we used to think, spawn ratios can be high too, 5 or 6 and still really fast.  Myself, I'm just playin' with tubs for a rematch, and waiting to setup the GH... Soon!  Happy Holidays and BE Safe!

Check out my tester bag, just having a ball! If this were manure based, I would have cased already and knots would be goin' down.  All good, just a tad slower, bag is 5 days in.

Surface action, lookin' NICE!

Pins poppin' up so fast now, should be an interesting weekend.  :mushroom2:

The wider tray will yield more if the pinset is good.

But I can run two deep trays in that same amount of space.  And it's easier in my experience to get full pinsets in trays with less surface area.

Let me put it this way, I can currently run four flat trays.  Or eight deep trays.  I recently ran the flat trays because that's what most folks like to run for some reason, and I was doing an experiment so I wanted the data to reflect that.

But typically I don't use them.

Here's a few different phenotypes of cyans in deeper trays.

And in shallow but larger trays.

But I have probably done more grows in meal prep containers then anything.

And I like freezer containers for AIO.

Anyway there's trade-offs to everything.  Large shallow trays with the right nutrition can certainly have excellent yield.  And if you lose that tray before it fruits it sucks.

But it can be fun to do big grows.  This isn't a Copelandia but ochra in a 28qt sweater box.

Also I do find the deeper trays a little easier to manage.  As far as surface conditions.  The shallow trays leave the casing more at the mercy of fans.

And I don't generally tend to fill them to the top or anything.  Usually around 2 or 3" but occasionally I've gone closer to 4".  And played around with some top fruited bags too, so that was more like five.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't have a ton of open holes because we get gnats here except in the winter.

But I do like low tek.  Don't even need a heater or a water bath if the room is warm and the air isn't to dry.

These were run with a heating pad and wet perlite over winter.

And a bvi

Dub tub on a shelf with water in the bottom.  But the room was chilly so they were already flushing from being in a controlled environment.  Bispored species especially like minimal air flow.

Oh and to expand on that, all of my fans are covered with dust vents to keep gnats out.

This is also why I don't do tents anymore.  I had a bad outbreak last spring.

Yeah.  You might want to modify it because of the size.  But cracked lids worked fine with 80qt tubs and I would try that first to avoid drilling holes (assuming it's not already modified).

I've stopped growing for the summer. πŸ˜„ I brought all my zaps out to the forest for a summer vacation and I'll bring them back home when fall arrives.
For now, I'm just foraging for wild mushrooms. The fungus gnats won this round. β˜πŸ»πŸ„

Remove all fruits and household potting soil plants too while ur at it and if u have any long wooden boards laying flat on the ground pick them up n set them upright to cover less ground space as that would be a perfect habitat for outdoor might infestation (speaking from experience) don't buy fruits like apples n bananas n grapes for a week or 2 if u can help it (bananas are the worst. Fruit flys/fungus nats love them and that's where I get my infestations from) and in 2 weeks to a month all flying abominations should be gone

Maybe, but during winter such problem doesn’t exist. Summer I am trying to plant something outside, kind of experiments for example how psilocybe syanescens will survive in local winters and if them will fruit next year, maybe😁
