If I go the potato route, does it matter what kind of instant mashed potatoes? Like does it have to be preservative n sulfate free kuz I couldn’t find one. If not I guess I’ll just get LME online I suppose or use raw potatoes

Also for my SAB will a big tote with two holes suffice? Is it best not to get too caught up on it?

Use what you have easy access to.
LME is a no brainer.
Now and then i make up some potato agar for spore germination only.
Just a 10min boil of peeled potatoes,
stain liquid, add agar, done. No added sugars, no added colouring.
Don´t make too much brains about agar,
it should be quick accessible,
and just to make sure you make clean spawn.

Yes, just 2 holes.
Make the holes big enough to not scratch around with your arms.
I used a beer barrel to melt mine, ~7" in diameter.
Be generous, get a big tub.
Most important is height to comfortably handle petri stacks.

What's the protocol for trying a new variety? Potency is all over the place from what I gather dependent on so many different factors i.e. genetics, growing conditions, drying conditions, etc. I always read a cube is a cube but from my experience that is not the case. Set and setting blah blah blah. I don't have the luxury of doing shrooms every week or two so when i do get a chance, I want it to make sense. Always take my dose on an empty stomach as I noticed taking it after eating nullifies everything.

You just asked for a standard and then explained how your circumstances are atypical.

You need to develop your own protocol.

Me personally I will eat like 10g fresh to check it out. If I feel nothing they are weak, if I feel a bit but no visuals they are avg and if I get some visuals then it's strong.

That's how I "pre-sort" them. I'll eat 10g fresh whenever, to test it. Haven't been bitten in the ass yet lol.

Weak stuff gets given away for free or experimented with. Then when I have some more time I'll do 3 grams ish of the potent stuff or 5 grams ish of the average stuff to really test it out.

Also it's not just the variety that affects potency, there are many factors as you said. So you have to find out your potency for your batch for your flush for your culture.  Ya know? Cut out any variables where you can and develop a standardized work flow, then once you have a nice variety of mushy you can compare them side by side.

And the "cube is a cube" phrase is more referring to cultivation. Cubes will grow in the same conditions regardless of variety. Some may prefer a bit more fae or whatever but at the end of the day, a cube is a cube. Potency varies a lot so, that's definitely not what the idiom is referring to.

Don't stress about protocol or whatever others are doing man just do what feels right and you'll find your own groove.

With cubes, I know I'll get what I'm after at .75 g dry, so I often test around that dose, and am almost always happy with it. Sometimes I'll dose a little more after, if it calls to me. That's just me though, people have various natural tolerances. My advice is to dose what you know will be enjoyable, but not overwhelming.

I used to eat 3g dry, then I found what was meant by potent mushrooms.
Now I try 1g dry and see where I get to, but only with cubes. If I try out a new pan variety I start with 0.25g dry, semps 0.5g dry, stones I don't mess with them anymore but 10g wet was what I started with.

When you say you’re eating 10g fresh, does fresh va dried have a variance of potency at all? I’ve read here that fresh has a different “feeling” than dried. Have you noticed that at all?

And then when you say 3-5grams I’m assuming you mean dried in this sentence right?

Yea, 3-5 grams fresh cubes wouldn't even be threshold range.

People say all kinds of stuff. And people's bodies are different. For instance, I can eat enough weed edibles to tranquilize a horse and not feel a thing. Also even eating 10 grams fresh upsets my tummy a little bit, my body just doesn't like cubes for some reason. At some point I don't know how else to describe the feeling but like by stomach will suddenly feel like a vacuum. Like the mushrooms move from my stomach to my intestines. I think maybe in an feel them in my body.

Once they hit my intestines it's bubble guts until I poop, then once they are evacuated I'm okay usually. Idk anyone else who has this issue, and I know a lot of shroomers lol

Also psychedelics are so subjective that I don't really place much value in what people say about fresh vs dry or anything. If there are 30 variables that can affect the intensity of a trip then it would take a lot of work to quantify the difference between fresh and dry, I've never done the work personally.

I have eaten dry and fresh both, fresh was maybe a bit stronger but idk sorry. And since they fuck me up I probably won't be doing any research on that area any time soon

I'd really like to try some fresh tea and see how that compares to dried shroom tea though. I do intend to try this out and take notes and compare for personal research.

My understanding was that for PF jars, I shouldn’t compress the mixture at all. I filled the jars up to the top, but after PCing for 2 hours (12 psi), they all shrank a lot haha.

Should I have compressed them more or?

Thanks

Gasketed and latched, do you any holes for FAE?

No,was thinking I should at least unlatch it so there is some FAE, but so new to this im clueless

Unlatch it and turn the lid upside down. You need some fresh air.

Thank you! Done!

Spoiled harvest?

I harvested some fresh APEs yesterday morning and placed them on the dehydrator racks.  I'm not sure if I hit a wrong button or if something else happened but it never ran.  I found them about 12 hours later and they had darkened up quite a bit - black and blue.  The had been at about 60-65 degrees the whole time.  I reset the dehydrator and started it last night.

Are these trash?  When I opened the dehydrator there was a whiff of death and dirt, but the smell went away.  Just trying to tell if these are still OK once dried out.

I would personally chuck em.

We usually store em in fridges cause they are COLD  and even then, it’s in paper bags or ziplocks or cardboard boxes to help with it from degrading.

People usually leave them in open air with a fan to dehydrate em.

The black and blue could be just from oxidation. The death smell would make me think they started rotting.

Not how I would want to spend a trip. Testing if they were rotted

At room temp shrooms degrade quick,
they shouldn´t stay longer than 1-2 hours.
The colours should be bruising.
Might be okay though, but keep in mind we´re talking about food.
Be responsible.

There is for certain something different about fresh vs dried.

And definitely differences between tea vs eating.

Until research can catch up,what makes them different we won’t know regarding fresh or dried.

But you can observe with tea that there’s a difference. The water coloring from a fresh shroom boil is a really nice blue/grey dried shrooms it’s definitely not.

My friends who have had issues with nausea stopped once I taught them how to make the acidic tea. Your body no longer has to attempt to break down the chitin of the shroom and my understanding is the human body can’t break that part down.

So now that the tea has already done the hard part of breaking all the good chemicals out of the shroom, you’re ready to go.

Best part with tea is you can consistently know when your trip should be starting. Eating them has randomly not hit me for hours even having not eaten food for at least 3 hours

Yeah, I don't think that's true about the chitin causing gastric distress. Humans eat insoluble fiber every day, it's good for your gut to have indigestible things running through it.

3 grams of an indigestible fungus should pass right through my body just fine, and when I eat inactive species of mushrooms my body doesn't have this problem.

Liquids spend a lot less time being processed in your stomach I believe, perhaps that has something to do with it? The best times I have are on a completely empty stomach with tea.

Makes sense about the contents of your stomach affecting your onset time. Different things digest at different rates.

There´s also people missing an enzyme,
important for the cleavage of natural sugars as in fungi f.e.
