I wasn't trying to say that was WLP. I just know sometimes when something bad happens after you do something you equate the two things in your mind. My wife got sick off of crab rangoon when she was pregnant and hasn't been able to eat it for 18 years. She used to love it.

No love here either. It did start raining finally a few days ago and we had our first night time temperature below 50*F yesterday so soon hopefully?

Cyans?

I'm just north of you on Harstine Island. They're always the last to fruit for me. Usually a few weeks after subaeruginosa get going.

Last pic of the aztecorum. Took the rest for printing last night, fed them and put them back for another spring fruiting.

These are going to keep me occupied for the next few weeks lol.

Property is in full swing. About two minutes of picking when I got home yesterday.

Had a great dinner last night. Chicken, gravy and these.

I haven’t been growing these for too long but I checked my notes from last year and my first pins were 9-27.  Chanterelles, on the other hand have been abundant. 😊

@puff is your wife okay? I am sure that experience was pretty traumatic. Will she eat WL again?

She's fine, thank you for asking. It had already worn off by the time I got home down to a regular trip.

We had a lot of fun, got high AF, laughed, cried, and generally had a good time.

Another banger year for chanty's. Might be just me, but they seem sweeter this year.

These pins were noticed 10/20 of last year. Seems to be a fairly consistent date looking back at old pics. You might be sitting on a record.

Old pic, but maybe it'll help the vibes.

Still waiting for my Cyanescen and Azurescen beds to pop.. they’re colonized as a mofo right now; inches thick of mycelium, but no pins.

Barely watered them this summer. Pretty sure that didn’t help but I wanted to let them run their (mostly) natural course.  I guess we’ll see how these next couple months go.  So stoked for y’all who are getting fruits…!!

Fuck yeah, keep those pics coming

Finally cold cold rains and leafy debris to collect.

Little late to WLP. It's just ego loss

QQ guys - Want to start WL bed. I've got alder, fir, and oak written in my notes as options.

Instead of coloring by numbers, I would like to understand what makes certain wood suitable/not suitable and why chips are better than mulch. And can I use mulch even if it isn't ideal? I've got a place making huge piles of mulch just down the street, so that would be easier.

The issue with mulch is that you don't really know what's in it. If it's mostly hardwood, it works fine, if it's cedar than it won't.

I used a mix of hardwood chips and mulch with reasonable success.

The hardwood chips you mentioned will work fine. I only used mulch because it was 1/10th of the price. Hardwood is hard to find where I live.

Yeah, I have no idea where to get something that I know is hardwood. Thanks for clearing up the mulch confusion though.

It's a bit expensive, but I used bulk smoker chips. I got 50kg of maple for $60ish CAD.

If you have a truck, I'd check with landscaping suppliers.

Mulch colonizes fast and aggressively. You're perfectly fine using mulch. I used mixed hardwood mulch for nearly everything in section cyanescens. With being in Wisconsin, it probably consists of a lot of oak and maple. You don't need to be specific on the type of wood just get hardwood. Avoid antifungal woods like cypress and cedar
