Those plates are 12 days old, no strange color or anything.

I did, I'm like three days in the t2 from that plate. looks okay so far but not a lot there to assess. I'm waiting on some fresh plates to do some more.

Yea thought so, i m not even sure it s myc. How can I be ?

I know i should look for discoloration / some patterns, but what about fluffy stuff like that, that don t change colors ? How to distinguish tomentose myc to some fluffy mold ? Or fluffy / aerial myc to fluffy mold ? Experience ?

Believe it or not, I've been a TC for over 13 years and tonight I used agar for the first time. This is also my first "flow hood" (Actually a cleanroom FFU) and I just got it in the last few months. Cloning the first pins to form on a batch of BRF cakes I had in the works. This is going to be my first time working from isolated strains. Super excited!

Pictures are a bit hard to really give advice. At least for me to give you direction...

My philosophy when you're getting your myc eyes is to go overboard and keep good track of what various growth translates to on new plates or grain if you're feeling frisky.

I'm curious what's causing this growth pattern. Pretty neat looking :cool::mushroom2: it's a Gandalf plate. I suspect contamination of some sort.

Hey everyone. Was hoping to get some opinions on my plates. There's unfortunately nothing growing on them that I can see after about a week. I was sort of expecting something from my dirty spore G. Luteus print, But I can't really see anything on the surface of either of these plates.

I used a recipe of 6% corn starch, 2% sugar, 2% agar, and just a dash of the spent yeast from the bottom of an old beer brewing vessel. I followed Josex's tek for no pour plates and I gave them 45 minutes in my insta pot. I know insta pot isn't recommended, but I figured it was worth a try, and my elevation is pretty low, so I figured it's max psi might just get me close enough. I had 4 more clean plates that all seem to be completely clean as well. I sacrificed one to get a decent picture of what they look like with the lids off.

There are some obvious issues with them. I overfilled for sure. And the surface is pretty wavy. I heated my agar in the microwave, which did not go great. I stirred the crap out of it but it never got any clearer. I figured it was just the corn starch, but maybe they didn't get as homogenously mixed as I thought. If they are even capable of supporting life then I assume the insta pot sterilized them because nothing is growing on any of them at all.

I suppose that leads me to my question. Are these plates any good? Did I make any crucial error that makes these unsuitable? Or are they just ugly? It's starting to look like my dried stipe pieces are growing something. And if it's mushroom mycelium I want to make sure I've got good plates to put them on. I'll try to get some decent pictures of them later to ask for opinions on whether it's mold or mushroom.

You're working with a non-standard species and some weird nutrients...Doubt there's many who can help.

First time growing? Do you know standard malt agar recipes?

I am new grower. And I'm aware I'm jumping in at the deep end. I'm not really stubbornly attached to anything I'm doing. I am stubbornly attached to using only spores/mushrooms I find myself. But there are much more common species like subs that grow near me. I just haven't found any yet. And I'm not afraid of failure so I figured I should get started with what I have while I'm looking.

I do know the standard malt recipe. I just didn't have malt. I may get some, but I was excited to start so I just used what was on hand. I based my recipe of psilcon's agar write up where he mentioned using corn starch. He also mentioned the leftover yeast as a source of nitrogen, and it was at hand so I figured why not. I realize these are pretty non standard.

I wasn't sure if I should post here or over there. I've read most of that thread and the impression I got was that most gymns don't require any special treatment until the bulk stage so I figured this would be as good a place as any. But I'm clearly very new to all of this so I could be wrong about any of those assumptions.

i do this with lc remnants after pouring. i like to test my lc after inoculating spawn bags

Hello,

Regarding SAB work + agar, I'm wondering something. What to do in this scenario :

I have a plate with healthy myc but contams too, some mold have sporulated. Plate A.
I've got another plate with healthy myc, no contam. Plate B

I transfer, inside my SAB, the healthy myc to a new plate from plate A.
Can I open plate B inside the SAB and do transfers or would the contam spread all over the SAB and contam plate B and the clean plates ?
Should I clean the SAB again before working with plate B + new agar plates ?

I know I could start with plate B, but i'm laying this scenario to know what to do.
