Well, shit. Guess I cant win 'em all. Thanks for the feedback. My first attempt at cloning fruit. Took the sample from the lower stem. I'll try the cap next time.

I split the shroom with my hands and then use the scalpel to get a small tissue from the middle of the stipe, usually works, bacteria has happened, it's part of it :awesomenod:

Mistakes are an opportunity to learn to do it better the next time. I'll try higher up the stipe and where the stipe meets the cap. Also I won't take my samples all from the same fruit next time. I am still harvesting that same grow, so I can try again. I even have some prepped plates left over. This contam appeared in under a week. I'll update with my next attempt.

And def can happen.happened to my first clones.  but I did five plates and 2 made it.  I always suggest. When  doing something for the first time.  do more than a few and give your self better odds.

You'll get it.

If your talking bout the part made when you roll the cake after birthing. No. Not necessary. But somewhat beneficial. At least coir is.  Oh  Also can substitute coir for the verm. Lots have adapted to doing that instead these days

It will fruit without a vrrm or coir layer just not as good. And will still need to be watered in some way at some point.

Hi there, how does it look like? This is my second time growing mushrooms. And for the first time I'm growing in a shoebox. Put them 8 days ago.

i would actually question the benefit of matting down the myc with dry verm but thats just me.  verm should stay in the earth.

Yeah you're good man. Good colonization, good surface moisture, good condensation on the walls. Just keep an eye out for condensation running down the sides and pooling. You can dab that up with a paper towel if it happens but other than that just kick back and wait for your shrooms dawg

Nice to hear. I'm glad I found this forum. Before starting, I watched YouTube videos and read articles that said I needed to sterilize my coir. I think that if it weren't for this place, I wouldn't have had such a successful grow the first time around.

Nah man, cut of the cap before you take the stipe inside the SAB, ISO on the gloves and tear it apart all the way. Use the thickest half stipe and take your tissue from the middle of the stipe.

That way you stay furthest away from the cuts done at the top and bottom, the middle is the best option in my opinion, the smaller the tissue size the better :strokebeard:

Apes (albinos in general) are slow. Just wait it out.
