First mushrooms from my ATL7 shoebox. This is 3 pints of RGS spawn (inoculated with three different clones of stones from BRF pucks), cased with a mix of pasteurized coir and sand. I've been misting it twice a day, and it's in a dubtub with the upper clipped on slightly askew. I cloned from the cluster top center, but I'm still cleaning that up on agar.

I probably waited too long to harvest the oldest ones there, when I saw they were starting to darken and wither I harvested everything. I was waiting to see if I could get a print from any of them, but even the most open ones didn't look like they were producing spores yet. How do you decide when to harvest them, otherwise?

Dont use coir the mycelium will just grow into that and digest that just like the rest of your substrate what you want to use is Pete Moss
About a eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch thick
Use it wet ore i use it bone dry because the Martha greenhouse and humidifier I use add all the moisture needed

I agree, coir isn't the best casing material.

Peat moss or seedling mix is what you want.

Ya'll know me, I prefer stones so I rarely fruit.

That being said, I make (pasteurize) any casing material with seedling mix/peat moss mixed with CALCI-SAND... once a year. It has yet to contaminate in the bag or as a casing. It's glorious. 😎🫶🏻

So can I pasteurize peet moss like I do coir? In a bucket with boiling water to FC and let cool…

Bucket tek is not really pasteurization.  If you are only doing small batches, then you can probably use ziplock bags of peat in your dehydrator.

Bucket tek is also trash can tek for pretty much anything except coir. I wouldn't risk it.

Or just put the bags (squeezed flat to remove air) in a pot & bring the water to 140-160° for an hour. You don't even need a thermometer 🌡️ but it's nice. 😎 It will FLOAT when the internal temp reaches 140°F. Get creative with keeping it submerged but rarely have to turn the stove back on, it keeps the heat fairly well.

I can't speak definitively on the dehydrator method since I never used it but, considering it's summer 🥵🔥 ⛱️, I'm sticking with the stove method. 😁🤣

Fair point about the heat.  I’ve been procrastinating the task all week.  Now I’m thinking about putting it outside on the back patio for that very reason.

I have a sous vide I can use. That’ll keep the temp perfect without worrying. So do I put the peet to field capacity first then put it in bags? Or just the dry peet in the bags?

🥒_ 🫙... If you cloned stones & then fruited them, you  already have the genetics - cloning a cluster is moot at this juncture. Although I feel like you mixed the 3 different cultures into the bulk substrate. Hehe. It's all gravy. 😁 You can harvest whenever you wish btw, most people allow the caps to _flatten_ out & drop spores. I don't but that's just my personal preference to keep the mess at bay. 😎 ---

Nocap - Right!? 💯 That was just my initial when looking at that tek. Haha. Yeah, if you have a back patio or garage that would certainly be better than baking your house. If anyone asks tell them the "truth" - pasteurizing soil to deter gnats from your house plants. 😁

AZ 🌵⭐  - Field capacity, for sure. Essentially, however you want it to be when applying to the substrate since it only has to 🆒, then it's ready.

I have a cheap sous vide I've been using for that (peat or coco jars), it works great. Hydrate it to field capacity before.

Thanks guys! Y’all are awesome. I’ve never tried a stone yet, so this I’m looking forward to.

How much calci-sand are you adding with the peat/seedling mix?

Up to 1:1 ratio.

If using seedling mix (since it's ph balanced with lime) I use 2 cups seedling mix to 1 cup calci-sand & has worked well. It's not an exact science on my end, I just noticed it doesn't contaminate and my mexicana responds well to it. I only make 1 quart bag a year. I'm sure there's wiggle room for a consistency of your choice since my mix is heavy on the C-S.

Most pet stores have it btw... I get the hermit crab version which has some peat moss added in.

I think I will try this as a casing when my grow is ready for it. I’ll spawn my jars to coir. Wait for colonization and then case with your mix on one shoe box and peet on the other.

I got a decent print off one of the ATL7 caps in my shoebox. It smeared a bit and has that shape because the cap's sides were curling up, but plenty of usable spores -- it's 19mm across the widest point.

After 6 months shroom break I had a 3g tampanensis fruit trip.
Most grounded mushrooms I tried.
Like most comeups I wet my toes a bit in the dmt CEV realm listening to music. Stopped the music since I was getting a lil bit mad about stuff going on in my life. Mad that im so lazy and never seem to do anything to get closer to my dreams.
Anyhow I leave the room and stop to look at the picture of my recently deceased aunt. I connected to her deeply and the mushrooms kind of facilitated apologizing to her. Both for not being abke to help more, and especially for judging her (about why she allowed such decay to come to her, why she didnt fight back, try to change.. etc). I was like Im perfectly healthy and young and I cannot seem to change my patterns myself. Imagine an older+ill person. All during this I saw her picture in such a way that she seemed to be even more smily than in the actual picture. I come down and enjoy the enhanced state of presence that I often feel on comedown. Again, grounded. With pan cyans even this nirvana comedown state seems to be on roids.
So wasnt fed any visual or stories bs like cubes and PEs. Pure groundedness and let me to do probably the only thing that made sense at the time being in the house of my aunt, which is to remember her and tell her what was on my heart.

As im advancing more into meditation and peace of mind and going away from psychs, if I ever grow more these are for sure among my only options at the moment (perhaps pan bisp also, liked my knly trip with those too). Like I said I like grounded and real. The time for woo woo shit and seeing aliens and what not is over

🙂‍↕️🙌🏻 Very Nice HoodedBling, I'm grateful they were kind to you in the way that you required to grow.

My mother & grandfather died from cirrhosis & I had to go through the alcoholic route for a few years to "understand" & "put myself in their shoes"... I too, was a judgemental twat. 😅 That's why we must try to remember ourselves, always & everywhere.

I feel you on the magical REALNESS too... Exactly why I prefer mexicana sclerotia; it's mystical/spiritual, yet terrestrial - grounded, as you say - beneficial for everyday life, real world application & use/reflection. 🥰

👾 Tentacle goblins are fun but trips like you just described are WAY more enlightening/enriching in the long run to daily 🧬 life. 🫶🏻

Any chance this isn't mold? It's supposed to be Mexicana Strain A myc. If it were a cube, it would have been tossed already. It's a brf puck about 2plus weeks old. Very wispy/fuzzy and a 'dingy' white color. Not sure if it's worth going to agar with:shrug:

It's always worth going to agar with - to both isolate and/or transfer away from contaminants if present.

I skip that brf-puck step because you'd have both a clean culture & quite a few jars colonized by now. 🤷🏻

That's mex-A mycelium, you're golden. It will smell like cucumber-melon if you're still skeptical about it. Brownish sectors are a good sign. 🙌🏻

Every species has a distinct mycelium "texture" & "look" & scent signature as well. It often appears 'wispy' & airborne but I assure you, it's quite tenacious...moisture content of grains/agar can alter it's appearance as well.

That's encouraging, off to agar it is!  (The mycelium appears less white outside of pictures, that's what made me suspicious)
Thanks for the replies.
