Awareness as a line

Interesting phrase. Can you elaborate on that a little please?

Hmm.. depends what perspective you mean. Think consciousness, with no self identity.
Like a rock would be in the first density. It exists, but it is not aware of it's existence. It has consciousness in the form of a point..
The plant exists and is aware of its existence, but has no ego. It has awareness of its existence to the extent of living and growing and being a part of the whole.

From a logical perspective, 2nd density is simply life without conscious intelligence... such as plants, animals, and even some intelligent animals like chimps.

Hmm, it's an interesting analogy, or theory, but I can't see any reason why this would be true over anything else.

The way I see it, plants respond to stimula based on chemical reactions and such, and are entirely automatic. Animals respond to some stimula automatically, but others are processed by the brain, and [from human experience] felt consciously. Whether neurons firing about in our brain are any different from the chemical reactions in the plants, is debateable. What we as humans are conscious of, are our senses, and our thought processes - perhaps plants at a very low level are conscious of the chemical reactions going on in their cell structure?

Seems very counter-intuitive though, and we know very little about the brain - it seems likely to me that somehow it is built to tap into universal consciousness, but that's just my theory, just as unprovable as yours !

Consciousness has nothing to do with having a brain. Consciousness is at the atomic and possibly even subatomic levels. Consider the recent quantum physics experiments which resulted in two atoms "knowing" where each other are over great distances.

This seems implausable to me. I am /totally aware/ of my own existence, my thoughts and my feelings. To think that this consciousness /in itself/ is merely physical particles, sub-atomic or otherwise, is not believable - for me at least. The fact that I see an image in front of me, fed from my retinas to my brain then to /ME/, is something that transcends anything physical, IMO.

An interesting example is:

If an incredibly intelligent computer was built that equalled our own thought processing power, would it be just as conscious of its existence as us?

If yes, plants probably are conscious at a low level.
If not, plants probably are not conscious at all, and how we as humans are conscious is a mystery.

I lean towards the latter.

plants seem to be quite "conscious" of their actions. They seem to be conscious of the sunlight, and will do whatever they can to get themselves into the best sunning positions within their reach.

They know what they need to do, and they do it wonderfully

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Of course plants are conscious.

One example might be the fact that they make choices.

For example a vine growing up a wall or tree, when filmed and speeded up so we can see, displays this quite obviously.
It sends out its tip and feels obstructions and clearances to it's path. When it hits an obstruction it somehow 'thinks': 'oooh that's a bit tricky that way', and moves it's growth direction completely extending tendrils into another pathway that is better for it's purpose. It weighs up factors such as overall and eventual potential sunlight access, ease of growth pathway, type of surface and grip available etc.

(Of course it makes mistakes too, like us - are the patrticular types of mistakes it makes dependant on kind of personality traits - of the individual plant and/or species of plant - I wonder?)

This cannot be being done simply by 'automatic chemical reaction' (unless you believe that all overtly conscious responses are auto chemical reactions which follow an especially long pathway. Is all consciousness a kind of auto based on an organism's DNA?). There is a decision being made and a course followed. A preference expressed, and by necessity it must be aware of it's surroundings in order to do that. Hence my conclusion is that it and all plants have some form of consciousness.

I disagree about chimps. They have been shown to have self-awareness, and can even recognize their own reflection. I would put them in the 3rd density.

Yes I think they def. do have superconciousness. Different plants have shared different group souls.....and they share it with animals and us humans. Now if only we could be more concious of them the Earth would be a much happier place to live on.

Has anyone read "The Botany of Desire: a plant's eyeview of the world" by Michael Pollan?

The book addresses this question and gives some amazing food for thought, so to speak.  It talks about marijuana.  Great book, highly recommended by me, if that means anything!

Bleak, do you have some ideas you want to share on the subject?
It seems like all you ever do is sit back and snipe instead of offering ideas of your own.

Maybe you are holding back something that could help further the discussion?

i dont know exactly what u mean by sitting back and sniping.

i shared ideas on the first page if u dont like what i wrote on the second.

u could adress that.

Yeah - ingesting and absorbing the highest plant and fungal consciousnesses is the way forward.
