And then, even within a department, you got all the little divisions. Jump-out squads, community liaisons, traffic enforcement l, parking enforcement, etc.

If you're working-class, don't have a record, and maybe did a little stint in the military, you can probably get a job somewhere as a cop.

So I'd say everything and nothing is true. The city cops could give two shits about your boy moving kilos of weed, while a State Trooper sits 20 miles away ready to throw him in jail over a joint and make his quota. And a Sheriff's deputy is at the next exit down, just fishing for a civil asset forfeiture. While, two states over, a jump-out squad lights up a schoolteacher at a traffic light.

And it can be truly confusing which way things will end up. A southern cop in a draconian weed state might toss your bag on the side of the road to keep you out of jail, while a northern cop in a decriminalized state might write you a ticket to fuck with you/make quota.

At any rate, mushrooms are truly a "roll the dice and see" type scenario. But I'd rather just avoid the roll altogether, of course.
