“Going back to spore“ means exactly that, either starting from the original spores used (if that’s how you started) or collecting some from your recent grow and using them to start again, thereby getting another range of genetics that might give you what you want.
Small fruits can also be the result of your substrate being too wet.
Those fruits still have some maturing to do.

Anyone got a cleaning jars hack for those without dishwashers?

Not looking forward to 30 of them :l

Has anyone used those ultrasonic dishwashers?

They all seem pretty worthless for actually cleaning food, but for removing any solids from jars before getting pressure cooked, it might be enough.

Drill and bottle brush.

If not too badly contaminated, just load up and PC. But I get the need want to have clear see through glass, but is it really necessary.

Or one of the countertop cup washers.

Anything i can do about too dry grain in bags? I feel like most of them apart from the king oysters are stalling due to presumably too dry grain. I did also spend last thursday to Monday away and turned the heating off so the only had about 15°C/60F for those days. That could also explain why the oyters seem to be doing better than the rest(Cubes GT/ESS/PE and Pans MIB/TTBVI)? I gave them all a good shake on Monday upon return. Now with the heating on its back to 20°C/68F

First attempt with the dawgy style wheat prep and thought id leave it on the dry side because of extended sterilisation time (3 hours) for bag tek. Loving the small bags but may need some more practice to get it right.

Any suggestions or just be patient and LITFA?

You want your grains to be on the drier side rather than wetter. There's nothing you could do now but LITFA and wait. You could inject sterile water into the bags if they were actually too dry but that's usually a ridiculous move and it's not a great idea if you can avoid it. Personally I'd avoid it.

Yeah, was thinking that could be a way to go but thats not running away and if it really stalls to a halt i can still try adding sterile water. Thanks!

Are you soaking your tubs after a first flush? Measured amount of water, or just fill it up tils its floating. Does making sure the sub is fully submerged matter?

Hi guys, do these shrooms look like cubes to you? They are supposed to be Golden Teachers from a T3 from a multispore vial from a trusted vendor. The first flush of this pf cake is the third phot of my signature, but now they look like this and I'm confused as hell. Are they cubes still? Or I managed to fuck up so bad I grew something else?

Is it normal for PE to be slow as fuck? I'm not kidding when I say I've spawned this to bulk about 10 weeks ago. Was kind of hoping be able to trip again on some shrooms by the beginning of this month.

It's finally beginning to grow some shrooms. I must add that it's fairly cold at my place atm.. but still I don't remember it taking this long to grow basic cubes like GT or PES Amazonians

No. Not normal with my PE Uncut. Much much qucker normally. BUT recently having the same (slow as fuck) with a PE LC vial I bought lots of weeks ago. So going back again to my good old PE culture (that I saved in a slant).

So this might be way off, but my understanding of spores is that they are like apple seeds.  You can have the best tree ever, but plant 100 of its seeds and get 100 trees with different characteristics.  But you clone the tree and now you have a repeatably good tree.  But cell division in mushrooms makes it progressively worse to clone.  I haven't read any books yet, so this might be like super basic academic understanding.

Assuming my understanding is correct, then that would mean every time you grow from spore you are essentially starting over again?

:whathesaid:

Threebee nailed it.

Also fruit size/maturity has nothing to do with potency, grow em out.

Going back to spores means that you are starting with a wider set of genetics, from which you can select winners by the usual criteria.

I'm still climbing the hill of getting perfect cultures. But I'm slowly getting better, in fact I have a PE7 plin on agar that is looking NOICE. Like go to grain nice. I will post pics later so y'all can tell me it's all frigged up.

PE7 = Penis Envy #7. A 'plin' is a pin that has formed on an agar plate. They are good for cloning or inoculating agar or LC.

edit: adding link - Here is a thread about plins

I just made some PE LC, and I'm putting the natalensis away for now. It's funny how much of a hurry we are at the starting point and then later think "holy shit man, this has kinda turned into a lot and I want a break."

"Hmm, why not put this and this on agar as well, and maybe this while I wait for the first ones?"

Just to find you ran through more plates in a week month than you would ever believe you could need in a year...

If you mean how to store cultures long term, check out the Cryovial Tek.

For actually keeping track of them, the world is your oyster (mushroom). The freezer boxes for those cryovials have nice Battleship-style row/column labels (A-J, 1-10), so you can write down the "coordinates" for each culture so you don't have to take each out individually to find something. I've also just written on the box lid (Sharpie is erasable with alcohol). You can use a spreadsheet, a text file, or a plain old paper notebook. There's probably off the shelf software that would also help with organizing.
