Are bulk to spawn ratios volumetric or by weight? Is it any different in practice? I ask the second question only because it seems to me way easier to weigh things than to do it volumetrically.

Volume because 1qt coir does not weigh the same as 1 qt grain

Thank you—I appreciate it.

Usually volumetric, with the additional oddity that a "quart" of spawn really means a reasonably filled (~2/3) quart jar of spawn, while we usually mean full quarts of substrate. A "quart" of spawn weighs something around 450 g.

We do not require precision here, so volume is a lot easier and faster. I'm not sure how weight could possibly be easier for this if you're already making spawn in jars.

Lots of pinning 📍 fuzzy feet 🦶 and white dots ⚪️ on pinheads. This tup literally just sits in the closet, no misting or fanning. Any thoughts on what I should do? I plan on just LITFA until harvest. The only thing I did was shake out excess water in top lid. Substrate seems moist enough and has shrunken quite a lot.

For those who freehand pour lc to grain, do you do something to make sure your pour isnt just the liquid at the top without mycelium in it other than trying your best to shake it up first? Or is this just not something to worry about?

Yes. Add .2% agar to the broth when you make it.

Yeah. I do .2 agar and nutrient. It keeps the mycelium suspended in solution.

Otherwise I pour the water off regular LC. It’s either that or shake well between each inoculation and pour quickly.

I tried .15% telephone brand agar in LC and thought it came out too thick. The broth didn't seem homogenous. I'm going to try .1% and see how it goes.

Edit: however the colonization looks great. It's not a blob settled on the bottom, but lots of growth all throughout.

Assuming you have mostly colonized LC and not just a tiny bit of growth with a ton of water on top, I just swirl the jar before each pour to keep the mycelium well mixed.  If you have excess water, just pour it off first as smelly suggested.

Hey all. Got some Nats that are hesitant to fruit. Was wondering if anyone had some advice or some recommended condensed reading as to what I can do to induce fruiting?

Correct, 300ml probably 50ish ml water on top. Went fine last run of jars. Just wondered if anyone was doing differently. Gotta run through a lot of new lc before i try making more with agar.

Although a couple new samples I recently acquired are dieing to go to agar and may be candidates in the next month or so.

Anything different to watch for with p nat? Or same processes work well?

We'd need more info on what fc you're using and pics of surface conditions etc.

Hard to know whether to tell someone their substrate is dry without seeing it or to increase fae without seeing surface conditions. It'd be a guessing game without more info and pics.

Just curious what variety is this you're growing?

And yes I would just leave it alone. The white on the Caps is normal as they get bigger they will become less noticeable.

You can try upping your Fae a little bit to help with the fuzzy feet but if that doesn't help it may just be a genetic thing.

this is why I'm curious what the variety is?  it looks like something I just grew. And upping the FAE didn't help.  I had fuzzy feet regardless.

The jar has mold on top under the dry verm. I'm going to toss it out. I was wondering is this little pin worth saving? Could I put it on a plate? Or should I not try doing that because of the mold?

I just birthed  it a few minutes ago rinsed it off. saw the mold and put it back in the jar
