3 months after inoculation something is finally happening with my shiitake.

I can’t tell if it’s normal browning or if it went right to pinning though.

One might be pinning. Ime you can ignore early pins and wait for the block to brown. When you're ready to birth you can peel off any fruits that grew. That way you can do some triggers and get a nice pinsets.



My kings are looking better than they did a couple weeks ago.

Man I’ve never seen kings look like that with typical umbrella caps. Mine have always had fat stalks and the shape kind of reminds me of bunches of celery

I should've specified black kings which are weirdos and present in lots of different ways.

My favorite way to rough up shii blocks is to blast them with the hose. You can watch Earth Angel do just this and it's where I got the idea.

Oh damn I would’ve thought a hose would blast the blocks apart, they feel so soft now.


The last photo in my signature is the one time I ran black pearl/kings, absolutely massive and some of my favorite looking mushrooms I’ve grown.


Just went through my pictures, almost exactly four years ago I tried growing kings in a shoebox and got some baseballs :lol:

Hard to say from the pic with utmost certainty but I would say yes good to go on the lot of them.

Nice looking kings. Sometimes I miss growing straight eryngii but black kings are so much easier.

Any advice appreciated on this plate. Does this all look like oyster myc? Did I just let the wedge touch the other spot on transfer or did I let something else in?

:uhoh: hard to say. It could be oyster mycelium but it's sure grown a lot faster than the tissue sample.

I would grab some of the mycelium poking of the t.s. and move it to a fresh plate.

Thought my 3 year old jar of lions mane lc was dead, today I found this beast growing from the bag :lol:




Unfortunately it’s not solid.


Today I also learned that I seriously underestimated the amount of spores that even a few bags of oysters will put off. I pulled the filter from the AC and instead of the usual grey fuzz it was caked in what looked like chalk, which I assume must be spores.

That was me yesterday, looked like someone dusted my fruiting chamber with climbing chalk.

About 480g from this pasteurized block.  Not great yield still but nice mushrooms.




This lions mane is wild. I can’t believe it grew from this tiny maybe inch long X. And was over a quarter pound being as fluffy as it is.

Actually I just realized it didn’t even grow from the X, it broke through the bag in the spot above it and the base was maybe .5 inch.

easier to harvest when they grow through such tiny holes. not a lot of substrate to cut off. good lookin lm for a 3 year old lc.

Wild G. sessile. Colonizing and fruiting extremely quickly.

This is a 13 day old masters mix, inoculated with about 1/4lb of spawn, a 5 week old 1lb master spawn bag, and a 5 day old fully colonized 8.5lb spawn bag. 5 days for full colonization seems insane to me, wild genetics can be really fun.

Anyone know much about sessile? I haven’t seen many research articles online, seems like a species that isn’t studied much.

These came out much smaller than previous runs with this culture, I assume from being in a tent. Before I would fruit in the bag or cut the top off and put it inside a mono.





Half a pound which is more than I was expecting from such a small cluster of pins.
