I got lucky with my vendor spores, I was four for four on "good" syringes before I switched over to cloning and then straight Agar work.

Unless you don't count the syringe I got that gave me Albino B+ instead of regular B+.

So I do think a high quality vendor today probably gives you a higher odds of success than it used to when techniques were still newer and those vendors were fresh. But still not preferable to Agar work though, obviously.

Instead of dunking for a second flush, can I just heavily mist it instead?

What looks messed up about it to you? How has it been stored over the last few days, since you just opened it? Add a couple of drops to agar and you will know if the contents are useable within a week. You can always move the clean growth to a new plate and you will be off and running.

That's super cloudy for a healthy lc.

I've been following Ben's posts, let's just assume for the sake of it that he knows all of the agar stuff.

He clearly knows how to grow.

Hi All, I have a few questions.
Flowhood Questions
1. With a flow hood, does it mater where the fan is in relation to the Hepa filter?
2. I see there is normally quite a lot of space behind the filter, is there a certain required amount of space required?

Sterilizer question,
My sterilizer fluctuates between 15 psi and 24.5 roughly. how should I work out the amount of time I need to sterilize grains?
(I stay a few thousand feet above see level if this changes anything)

Theres no way to tell for certain tell by looks if it's healthy - test it on agar and you'll know if it's healthy.

About how many six quart shoe boxes is it possible to make with 3 lb of Spawn?

I've got a couple 3 lb grain bags I'm interested in spawning out into shoe boxes

So I just had a successful water tub grow in fact I'll be preparing it for it's 2nd flush soon but my dad also wanted to get an AIO  grow bag to see if we could get it to fruit and it's been a long time colonizing all 5lbs but I think it's looking really good

I already mixed it together after partial colonization and now I think it's reaching around 70-80% colonized

So for the question: Do you guys think it's ready to cut the bag and slap a paperclip on it? Start the light schedule etc? Or does it essentially need to be pure white mycelium before I should fruit?

Here's some pics

Also, you can probably tell that when I was mixing the bag, I didn't create a uniform flat substrate surface, and i'm wondering if I should try and fix that by moving The substrate around in the bag or just let it ride?

Depends on your spawn ratio, 3-6 comfortably though I reckon

You want it to be fully colonized before opening it, personally I would do another break and shake, but this time take some care to flatten the top like you mentioned, and within a week or so I imagine it’ll be ready to fruit

After continually failing to make my own grainspawn, I plan on buying the Midwest organics premade bags from Amazon. But I want to inoculate them with agar. What is the preferred method for resealing the tops if I cut them off in SAB?

It’s really not ideal, as the bag is so flexible it will suck air in and blow air out of whatever hole you make as you are trying to work with it.

I’ve had success making a 2-3” incision, dropping an agar wedge in and covering with packing tape. But I would far from recommend that.

I’d maybe look into making an LC and using Fahtsters steam pen tek to inoculate

So the pins are up for the 3rd flush from a grow bag and the mycelium looks like it's turning blue.
Is this safe? Looks like the same shade of blue when you cut shrooms but it's in the mycelium

Thanks so much Tri  it did look like unhealthy rhizo growth again and mixing helped alot with that so when I get back from urgent care I'll get on it ^^

So I'm working on my ffu sterile technique, after a botched first attempt at A2G. I understand not to put my hands over open vessels and dont put anything between filter and my work. So one issue I could imagine causing problems was with the steps involving cutting up the plate. I work on a cookie rack, started out opening HG style plate, laid the lid on cookie rack with the top down, did my cutting, and then set the cup back on the lid upside down. Unscrewed grain jar lid almost all the way, flamed scalpel again, cooled it in the flow for maybe 5 seconds, then removed lid, set it top side down on the rack, used my scalpel to flick agar into the jar, then put the lid back on the jar. So my question is whether or not I should be placing the plate face down on the lid, bc it's pretty much impossible to do perfectly without touching the rim of the cup to the rim of the lid, and the rim of the lid was exposed to open air the entire time it was colonizing, so I'm wondering if that's where I picked up nasties. Disclaimer- this isn't something I considered until after the fact, and not something I did while actively wondering if it was a problem. Is this considered procedurally accurate or should I just leave the cup face up in the flow while I finish prepping the jar and scalpel?

I never put down lids on anything. Lift lid off plate, take wedge, put lid on plate. Take lid off jar and drop wedge in. Put lid back on jar. I never put down a lid. I never put down my scalpel. Unscrew jar lids and unwrap plates before I flame my blade so I can do everything with one hand.

You're only putting a single wedge in a quart of grain? I thought the procedure was to slice the whole plate into a grid and flick them into the jar. I suppose I could unscrew the lid entirely so it's just sitting on the jar, slice up the plate, remove lid and transfer and then replace lid. Not even dick around with setting down the plate or flaming again...

Not really a question, but I asked a lot of questions recently about why my grainspawn keeps failing. To update: I did not yet change my lids or jars, but I did switch to reverse osmosis water, PC for two hours and inoculate in SAB by squirting fresh tested LC syringe directly onto grains instead of through SHIP. Still get this growth. For just a moment I thought there was healthy growth, but it only looked normal between the glass and first grains. Between grains it turns into this. No bacterial smell or otherwise obvious wet spot or sourness.
