What is the potency level of strains is there a chart somewhere?

1) You can't.

2) not potent-extremely potent, and no there is no chart that is useful because each individual mushroom will vary.

Are you guys using off brand lids, only brand lids (mine are ball), or plastic lids reusable lids.

Mine have all become rusted to hell, some after one or two uses. If the off brand are fine I'd consider those since these are essentially disposable. Or if I should consider plastic lids I could do that. (I don't mod them in any way for the most part...i had done LC and filters for a bit but don't want to bother anymore now that I have my flow hood)

Plastic is infinitely better than metal 2 piece lids.

They will last for a long time compared to metal.

I see 6 official ball plastic lids on Amazon for $9, or 16 off brand with removable silicone gasket for $10 (those seem to have good reviews). Dunno if anyone has experience with the off brand

I have a ton of the Aozita brand lids from Amazon, both regular and wide mouth. Love them - I use them in the house for non-mushroom cultivation purposes, too.

I don't bother with the silicone gasket. It's nearly (but not quite) leak proof when very tight, without the gasket - certainly good enough for our purposes. (And, with a pristine lid, actually good enough to shake the shit out of liquid without making a huge mess - might just get a little running down the side.)

I've modified a bunch with 1/4 inch holes and SFDs, but I think I prefer them unmodified.

They will warp (cave in slightly) if you don't loosen them enough in the PC. It makes them ugly and less smooth on the threads, but still usable. I don't think I've warped any in the last dozen runs, though, so once you get the feel for it (a quarter turn), it is usually not an issue. You can get away with less if they're modified, but I had trouble with some of the warped ones sucking in water that pooled on top of the filter. So I cover those ones with foil and loosen all of them.

Sweet thanks for the feedback. I'll get some off brand plastic ones. Having to rebuy the metal lids is definitely annoying. Glad to hear I don't have to dish out for the official ones too

I appreciate the offer, I will have to research and resupply a bit before I take you up on that though!

For now, I picked up a Cuban spore syringe. Wish it could’ve been LC but no one seems to have this strain (I’ve been looking ever since I heard about it, no puedo decir porque pero ya tu sabes).

Do spores go straight to agar? Or is a PF puck -> josex poke the way to go?

I want to try growing using bags but I don't know anything about mushroom bags. What size mushroom bags should I get for grain spawn and for substrate? And is there different filter sizes? If so which should I get?

You can buy qt bags to mimic jars or just go bigger.

The size bags you go with is up to you.  Something to consider: I do not see the point of using spawn bags unless running more grain in one vessel than will fit in a quart jar, but that is just me. 

Yes there are different filter sizes.  For running grain spawn get the .2 micron filter patch.  For running bulk substrate in bags for invitro fruiting go with the .5 micron filter patch.

How long does agar last at room temp?

I made a bunch of plates/cups about 10 days ago and have some left over. Are they still worth using or would the agar be bad now?

Unicorn 4T bags work for me for spawn. They’re good for smaller grows

They last well, mine often sit around for a couple weeks. They will dry out eventually, how long that takes will depend on storage method/area conditions.

Got a laminar flow hood. Very excited. Been doing some testing. Placed 3 clean petris across the length of it and kept them open for about 3 minutes. Been letting those sit for the past 3 days and so far nada.

In terms of a flame test I get about a 45 degree angle on the flame 6 inches away but the outer edges of the filter to either side seem to be weaker, is this in area of concern? I also get an 80-90 degree flame 1 inch from the filter but it flutters and doesn't extinguish. Should I also be concerned about that as well?

Edit: I guess another question would be when spreading spores on agar is it good practice to change loops or does flaming till red hot negate that? Apologies for all the questions lately, some of this info just isn't readily available on here.
