Is there any kind of current list of cube varieties that are actually different, like PE and Enigma and such? I haven't been able to come up with anything yet...

You’ve got all cubes, Penis Envy vars, and Enigma.

For cubes that’s about all you need to know I think.

Something like this?  Theres probably lots of new named hybrids/isolations since then, but it's a decent start.

maybe not so quick question please fellas

When pasteurizing, are people ramping up slowly and ramping down slowly to/from temperature? What is the best practice?

I have been wetting the sub in the vaccuum bags with 80°C water to get close to 69°C from the start, then sous vide for 2 hours once bath is at temperature plus an extra ten or fifteen minutes to allow for temp equalisation of my bags, which are made very thin, so that they come to temperature with the water very rapidly as it is climbing to temp with the sous vide

When I finish I just remove them and leave them on a shelf till cooled, then cut a slit to allow some air back in so everything is not anaerobic in there while they wait a day usually to get spawned

does this all sound alright and like best possible practice?

Or should I be rapidly cooling bags after pasteurization in a cool water bath and/or allowing them to rise to temp over an hour or more as the sous vide warms the bath?

I also assume I should be allowing air back in also and not leaving them sealed and vaccuumed there until use?

My process works fine it seems but I wonder what the gold standard is?

Thanks, good times

Can you put shrooms back into a dehydrator months after initially dehydrating them? I grew a batch a few months ago, and I guess I didn't store them well enough. Also had a bag of enigma that's about a year old that's feels spongy now...toss or no?

I haven't had the chance to eat any in a while...tonight was gonna be the night lol.

Think I didn’t fill these enough with BRF. Will she find her way down to the BRF layer through the dry verm? I used LC syringe that I tested on agar, just wasn’t sure how I’d get a wedge down to the BRF layer so I jabbed em instead.

The brf mixture only looks right to me at the bottom of the jar where it looks like Grey sand that's what my mixture looks like when I get it right. I'm guessing you injected in the middle and not very deep. I'm a noob and just learning but I'd guess the dark substrate layer doesn't have very much nutrients (brf) for mycelium growth but I have jars right now with the mycelium colonizing into my dry verm layer.

So from my very limited knowledge I'd say maybe nature will find a way but getting the brf verm mixture right before innouculation is incredibly important to growing healthy mycelium.
Best of luck friend hopefully someone more knowledgeable then me can answer you better.

I ran out of BRF so I just filled them with what I had while I waited for more, the top is just the dry verm layer. I did the mixture how the PF guide says on here as usual, just don’t think I filled them enough for these half pints. Honestly i’ll just see what happens at this point, got some grain jars to make this weekend too

You should have left the dry vermiculite out and made a BRF puck.
