0.1% up to 1% malt extract (less makes clearer broth, more makes somewhat thicker growth).

Diluted grain soak/boil water if I happen to have just prepped grain. I think I usually dilute to 50% but I'd bet 25% would work as well or better.

Sterilize as I would agar of the same volume (45 minutes for bottles with 400 ml liquid).

Early break and shake won't cause an issue. It looks like either a lot of knots are forming or you are about to go green. So you are going to know one way or the other very soon. Fingers crossed for you.

How long should a hydrated and PCd grain bag stay good? As in, how long can I let it sit before inoculating? Waiting for agar test results on the LC.

If it's properly sealed waaaaay longer than you'll have e to wait for agar

Properly hydrated and sterilized grain can keep for months or until it dries out if your filters are good. The sooner you use it the better chance you give the mycelium if there is any slightest flaw in your sterilization, though. No sense in giving a single bacterium a big head start. But you can certainly wait a week or two without worries, ime.

I have used many months old jars without any noticeable difference from fresh ones.

The real question is why are you misting in the first place? If you are doing cakes, I guess soaking the Verm through misting might be an option but the cake should have enough moisture to start pinning and create a microclimate good enough to form primordia.

I roll dry, let it set to stick on there and then soak. I still have to most a few times especially in the summer with the AC. The air is dry at in my house.

2 cakes in a shoe of that are still producing I had to mist a few times and refill the water. Almost 3/4" evaporated dry in 2 weeks.

I haven't even used coir. I bought a PF kit from the back of a punk rock magazine in the late 90's and did about 4 rounds with it til I figured out there were other ways.

I feel like I need to do a few more trials now. I'm gonna do at least 5 to try and revive some old spores anyway. Maybe I'll just do a full dozen and have fun with some.

Have you noticed a difference with any of the casings?

Well pretty much all of my knowledge of fruiting has come from the water tub thread by Maheja, my noob thread and this thread. And im definitely not planning on misting constantly because the water tub should take care of that.

In the guide it says when you first start to mist until surface conditions are "right" small droplets and such but trust me if I can make this simpler I'd like to.

I've seen alot of pictures of water tub grows in my research and none of them have no coir or verm. That doesn't nessicarily mean leaving them bare would be bad though. Conceptually the idea makes alot of sense after theyre soaked and in a water tub that should be enough.

This is what I meant by misting essentially just misting at the beginning for surface conditions. Then just checking on it. I have no idea how my climate is going to affect the grow. It's generally dry af here, very hot and I have a swamp cooler that barely works most of the time. So it's making it challenging to choose what to do with the cakes.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have one cake I just soak and see if it grows better worse or the same as the others?

Can I have cakes with no sub cakes with verm and cakes with coir to see how they all grow differently or will that just fuck up my entire grow?

You’re overthinking it. Try Verm. Try coir.

The PFTek recipe is really hard to fuck up.

Casings are useless unless fruiting anything other than cubes.

So if you are growing cubensis, Verm or Coir as a pseudo-casing will do just fine. Dunk/roll/LITFA if you are in a water tub.

Used Zirans updated PF-Tek just minus the dry verm layer as transferred from agar.

Got myc jumping up onto lid..is this ok? (Realise probably not best tek for agar transfers)

And do you think couple more days till colonised?

Cheers for the help.

That is wonderful news. Yeah I really really overthink things. I want to have absolutely 0 problems with this grow and for it to go spectacularly but there's only so much I can control.

Seems like this simplified it alot for me

I just get either verm or coir to field capacity then roll and Lifta

Have yall known about β€œnonmachinable stamps”? Once I’m over Covid and not stuck in my damn bed wanting to function I’m doing another giveaway and will be using these stamps. Might save some swabs or prints even though I try to pack carefully and use plastic swabs.
