What was your ratio like?

Amazing job!

ratio was 2 full quarts to a brick, so about 1:4 with a thin limed peat casing at full colonization. I don't think the one I have even needs a casing, she is knotting like crazy before I even apply it

I tried cactus soil as a casing too but it has been producing sketchy results with a lot of aspergillus showing up, so the plain peat adjusted to above 8 pH seems to be the ticket for me here, much cleaner than soil I have found

It's been a while since I've posted, here are some recent Subtropicalis BRF cakes i dumped out in my compost pile after 3 flushes. The morphological differences between the indoor and outdoor fruitbodies are quite dramatic. There seems to be much less cap curling when grown outdoors. Will be trying more outdoor grows with these in the future.

Wholly shit! Awesome post :fuckinawesome:

And glad to see you back here. I read this whole thread when I started cultivating Semp and I took tons of notes from you :bow2:

Can you tell us more about the weather in which these grew?

Cap is almost the same size as the cake. Very nice.

Good to be back! I should have clarified the first picture were cakes grown indoors for comparison. I am in the upper midwest, temps have been ranging from about 50°F at night to 80°F during the day. We have been getting a lot of rain this year and it has been fairly humid. On dry days I hit them with the garden hose.

That pinset is thick! Is that cased grain? Which line of subtrop?

I posted about this tub of Semperviva a few days ago when I noticed that it was progressing much slower than it's sibling tub. The smell of alcohol has greatly decreased and I still don't know if I ISO'd it or if it was something like a yeast infection.

I'd been waiting until it had colonized 100% before casing it, but since it's now stalled I'm wondering if I should let it ride, or if I should go ahead and case it... thoughts?

This is one of several isolates I pulled from the Bell Caps. I haven't worked with the others yet. It's not the Bell Cap pheno but I'm really liking the flying saucer caps. It's even produced some very pronounced pointy nipples. It's only mildly isolated and seems to have a few different phenotypes growing under the same conditions.
The sub is a cased and contaminated PF cake.

It's fruiting most heavily along the contaminate edge which is something Workman and I had noted some 15 years ago. Each main cluster is right above the mold and there are three spots.
They won't beat mold every time but if they have a jump on it then chances are good you can get at least a flush or more.
A ways back AKA had posted a weird tumor that popped greenish powder. It was likely an encased contaminate. Not sure if I ever posted that when he showed it.

I would give it time. Casing early can lead to problems. Especially if the colony is weakened.

*You say stalled.. what do the sides look like? After all these years I have yet to experience yeast problems with them beyond agar. Even alcohol producing bacteria.
:hmm:

Yeah... The sides indicate that the sub is not colonized enough to case. Here are the two tubs spawned the same day
