Was it the verm or was it the coir?

I used Stipes recipe of-
900g coir
3L verm
5000ml water

Ended up adding almost 1500 ml  extra water to get it field capacity..
I’m guessing it had to do with the verm..I mean, I know coir is variable but, that much?

Said verm

Said coir

That's a lot of water. How did you check for field capacity?

I just PC’d rye grain jars for 90 minutes and realized I forgot to vent (so I’ll do it here Grfffft!!! for 10min).

Should I just PC them again properly? I don’t want to invite contaminants, but I don’t want to dry them out, either.

Re-sterilize them and do it for 120 minutes this time after you vent your PC.  90 minutes may not be long enough IME.

That’s what I’m sayin’ …
I’m familiar with the concept as I’ve prepared other substrates for germinating other plants a few times.
-I used the traditional squeeze test.

How long do your Josex Poke LC's normally run for before use? This one's on day 14, thinking it's good to go..

My most successful grow yet, Natalensis. I’ve read to wait until the caps flatten out.

I was planning on waiting 24 hours, would that be too long of a wait?

They’ll probably start dumping spores by then and making a mess of things. I like the look of them now. Will have good bag appeal in their current state.

Do you actually need to microwave an agar bottle before PCing? I just realized I don't know why this step is in my notes.

Nope. Just toss in everything in cold. Shake it up until it dissolves and then PC.

One of my PF tek cakes had formed a few pins and small bodies inside the jar. When I took it out to dunk in water and roll in vermiculite, they turned blue. Should I remove them before rolling in vermiculite and putting it in a fruiting chamber? Or will they continue to grow?

If your cakes start to fruit in the jars, you have two good options - remove the pins and prep as normal or put them straight to fruiting conditions.

If you're goin to soak them and roll them in verm, you need to pick the pins off first. If you want to see those pins through to maturity, put the cake right into your fruiting chamber and bottom water it. Then, after those become mature and you harvest them, dunk and roll to prepare for another full flush.

I just put it in water without removing them but it's only been under for 30 minutes. I will put it in the fruiting chamber to see what happens, I have more cakes so it's fun to try different things.

They turned blue from the "trauma" of being taken out of the jar.

Personally if it were me I'd just pick em off the cake and go about my business as normal. There's a chance they'll abort and not get any bigger.

But hey, it's also fun like you said to just mess around and see. They may very well go on to be full on mushies 0.0

I started this hobby less than two months ago so trying different things with the cakes. I'm a bit surprised that none of them have been contaminated thus far

This is what it looked like.

edited: This was not an intentional test though. It wasn't fully colonized so I waited and these became that big in two days or something, I didn't notice them when I just checked if it had colonized the vermiculite.

I'm curious about looking into the tek where you put small totes into a big one. For FAE it uses a Fish tank filter that is connected to a cub inside the big tote and somehow that is enough FAE for small shoeboxes inside. I'm just curious if there is a good write up and what tek that is as I had trouble finding info on that

I currently use small 10x10 Amazon microphone tubs from Amazon. They are great in a lot of ways. I just sadly am on my 4th one and still have a few Nats that need to send.  My grain spawn is like the backlog of my steamlibrary right now, well maybe not that bad lol.

I've been I'm trying to avoid shoe boxes as i had a lot of problems with them when i first started out. sub dries out too fast or I dont get enough FAE. I currently just grow natalensis too as I have never gotten cubes to work. Nats just need a bit more FAE so not sure if those half cracked lid shoeboxes would be enough and doing stuff like dub tub is out as they dries the sub out too fast.

Literally just have to set shoeboxes inside of a larger tub with some ex dial holes or unmodded with the lid cracked.
