Something New to listen to. * 1
    #2842989 -

I'm sick and tired of listenign to the same stuff over and over. I recently just started listening to the Shpongle band you guys talk about but I'm ready for something new. I get really depressed when I dont have anything good to listen to so maybe you guys can help mefind something else out. I'm not really in tune with the music scene anymore so I dont know whats new and whats any good (god I sound lame dont I). I like dark music with good lyrics and some depth to it. I pay attention to composition and like things tunes that are unusually constructed. I enjoy listening to artists like nine inch nails, dead can dance, tweaker, Gen Dos, KMFDM a few women artists like Rasputina and a little bjork. I love strings especially dark powerfull Minor chord sounding stuff and very much enjoy classical music.

So can someone please help allieviate my depression by suggesting a few artists to check out that might stimulate my psyche? Thank you for your time.

I've heard a lot of the main stream bands like APC and Tool and such. I'm looking for something more underground, but still professional.

DB, Both of those are very nice, but still looking for something maybe more dark, depressed, something that makes you wish you were dead I find this music to be very impowering.

I don't listen to Neil Young at all, but I just happened to hear that song once like 5 years ago, and I really liked it. Very sad, but very good.

Mum - Finally we are no one

get this album! it took me about two months just to get past the 3rd track, it's that good, "we have a map of the piano" I think it was called, going by what you said you listen to up there this is what you are looking for.

Califone - Roomsound
Perishable records

here's what they said on there website...

nobody cross-pollinates the blues, folk music and broken electronic instruments like califone... from the carcass of red red meat comes a series of gorgeous and personal hymnals delivered with the electro-rustic vocabulary of one of america's most original bands...

debut full length. really pretty music. enhanced cd. califone's finest work yet, a tasty crop of timeless, time-lapse hymnals and thick industrial folk as only they do. reflections of the breath of pirates, poison apples at a tango contest, and the waiting room between death and canonization - where missionaries have quit & 19th-century whores have been rescued for all the wrong reasons. enhanced cd features videos of califone playing live in a bathroom. many guests, many moments. embiggened by brian deck. ensconced by steve walters. enhanced by jeff economy. (2001)

Dunno if you'd be into prog metal but check out Opeth.  Definitely dark with unusual composition.

If you're into mellow stuff, try Face of Melinda, To Bid You Farewell or anything off of the album Damnation.  If you want heavy try Karma, The Leper Affinity, Blackwater Park or The Moor.

Well, I hate punk rock and I dont really care for stuff that sounds like it is from the 80's. I like it kinda heavy but not crazy guitar sex kinda stuff. I really liked explosions in the sky and mogwai and they weren't too dark. I'm still looking into the other stuff. As far as composition goes, i'm looking for something that could compare the album The Fragile, nin .

Wow, to compare to The Fragile... good luck, that album is simply amazing, especially if you are a big fan of 'hurting' music which I see you are.

You said you liked Mogwai, I wouldv'e recommemded that to ya, the last album was great.

Are you a Boards of Canada fan? Geogaddi can make you feel MANY things, some of which are scared, safe, haunted, deceived, intrigued, etc. etc. I highly recommend that album, and anything else by Boards of Canada. It seems from other bands you've described as liking (mogwai, Shpongle, specifically), you'll love this band. VERY deep music.

I hope you are a Tchaikovsky fan? He wears his heart on his sleeve, and his last symphony I swear is a suicide note... The most emotionally depressing music I've ever heard. His 5th and 6th symphonies have brought me to tears on a happy day....

Opeth!  Buy the album 'Damnation'.  It is acoustic/clean compared to their usual sound(prog metal, like DH said  ).  If you dont mind screaming/deep growling vocals, check out their album 'deliverance'(and make sure to listen to it more than once before you criticize, as I felt like not listening to it ever again the first time I played it, and then the second time I heard it, it was AMAZING!
If you're into NIN, then i'm sure that you have heard of Alice in Chains....If you want heroin laden lyrics mixed with a dark sound, AIC is what you're looking for, recommended albums:  ALL of them! they are all classic.  You say you want underground, which AIC were not, but highly underrated IMO.  check it out! :headbang:
