Possible contam or bruising? PE Uncut, mono, w/ pics
    #28273997 -

Hey all. I'm curious what some of you think of this tub. 8 days into colonization. Is it mycelium poking through the casing layer? Is it bruising? I can't tell. No smell. Spawn was clean. Four quarts, straight coir, field capacity was perfect. Temps are around 72-76 maybe. I think it looks odd but I've grown PE's before that had odd colored bruising on the mycelium as well. Here's some pics. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It does look a little weird to me, but its probably fine... The bluing could be from the sub drying out or the field capacity being underhydrated, the mycelium looks sligtly matted to me, did you mist a lot?

Hey thanks for the reply man. Yeah I did mist a couple times. Maybe 4-5 times over the span of a few days. Some of the discoloration is by the holes in the tub. Could that be a factor in a dry bruise like that? This is my first time trying the uncut strain so I don't know what to look for exactly.

How are you dialing in your monotub? If your monotub is dialed in you shouldnt need to mist at all until after the first flush, if your surface conditions are getting dried up really quickly you may need to restrict FAE by putting more micropore tape on the bottom holes. ONLY mist when you need to, when you dont see small beads of water on the surface of the mycelium.

I believe PE is not really too different to other cubes, just much slower fruiting time and usually requires a thick compressed top layer to prevent blobbing.

Right now I have the top holes with one layer made of two pieces of micropore, no overlapping. The bottom holes I have two pieces of tape with a gap about an inch or so wide with another piece of tape in the middle, overlapping the other two pieces a little. I'm definitely gonna hold off on misting now, coir looked and felt dry whenever I decided to mist. There's minimal condensation compared to other grows I've done as well, which also factored into me misting a little. I have no polyfil otherwise I'd go with that, but I've always used micropore with this exact setup with no issues before.

It seems you are dialing it like PastyWhyte does with his micropore tubs, i prefer that over polyfil,  i would keep it that way,
It may just be that you didnt reach field capacity when hydrating your coir this time; dont hold off on the misting if it requires it; it needs tiny beads of water covering the whole surface, keep the misting light so water doesnt pool and Matte up the mycelium... If im right and the coir is under hydrated you may need to baby sit the tub a little bit more than usual

Yep, Pasty's  exactly who I got the tek from. Cool cool. That's very possible too. I used 3.25 quarts of water for a single brick of eco earth since I've used 3.75 quarts and have had to squeeze out water from straight coir before. I may have gone too low, I hear eco earth bricks vary from 650g a lot. Thanks a ton, that makes sense anc helps a lot. I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on 'er for sure and watch the misting.
