Al Franken said it best: Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat idiot. What's even more absurd is I actually have a friend who listens to his show.

No, that's the sad thing. This friend of mine actually agrees with Rush, and swallows his shit whole.

there's nothing wrong with listening to his show, just don't take everything he says as gospel. If you've never listened to him you really have no leg to stand on when you denounce him.

I used to listen to him but it's really hard to hear life advice from a millionare who is a hypocrite.

Not that I'm usually a spelling freak, but it's G. Gordon LiDDy. Hes not just some person with a radio show (which he doesn't have now, actually), he was a very important figure in American history. I think he worked for Nicksun.

I used to watch his show in the early 90's as well, but I wouldn't say that I adored it. It was kind of fun listening to him bash the far left, but his circular arguements get very old and boring after a while. I also enjoy listening to people bash the far right as well...

I've listened to his show unintentionally before while riding in the car with some Republicans. I stand by my statements.

I realize that things like "Truth" and "reality" have no place in your arguments, so I won't even try to explain to you why it's sad that kids don't know American history. It's like that Noram Kimsky guy says, or something.

you just strike me as someone who would NEVER give him a chance and hear him out. I can't blame you for not listening to him. I listened to him for a long time, mostly because i couldn't stand the whining from the leftist host on a different station (his name escapes me) Tom Lycus?(sp). His views have changed quite a bit since he started from a conservative voice to that or the "right" elite. That bothered me alot. Then with his drug thing well, that just was the last straw since he basically wants all drug users tarred and feathered.

I still listen to him nearly everyday, but only because I am in the car for the 3 to 4 hours everyday and I hate listening to the (majority) of the shit on the radio.  Talk radio is far more interesting.  I just don't have anything better to listen to while doing all that driving.  I need to get some books on CD.

I don't think it's fair to classify him an idiot though in the normal use of the word.  He's a pompous, elitest, self-gratifying, asshole-hypocrite though.  His ability for analysis is brilliant at times, not so at others.  But he's a very intelligent man regardless of what you think about his positions.

I think he plays a vital role to the equanimity of the nation though.  He was really the one who showed that conversative talk radio could be succesful.  With the majority media leaning so far left you'd think they forgot to drink their V-8 (is that a bad joke or what! ) and most conservative talk radio being on the other end of the spectrum, it allows for a more centerist population.  It's just easier to recognize the center when you can identify both ends clearly.  Without him and others - who success was pivotal on his achievement - I'm afraid that major media would have a near monoply on dictating acceptable thought patterns.  But I could be wrong and someone else may have been able to fill that gap.

My realization of him as a hypocrite though is what I dislike him most for.  I never saw nor listened to him early in his career, I've only been listening to him for just over a year.  To anyone (I think Innvertigo said he had) who listened to him early on, how has he changed?

P.S.- If someone who is talented with graphics could make a one humourizing someone's drastic political leanings, to left  or right, like the old V-8 commericials, I would find it very entertaining.

Though no one else would, would they... :frown:

I listened to him from about 1995 (give or take a year) until about 2002 or so. He's changed in the way he perceives those that are less fortunate than he is ie: more elitist. Lets face it not everyone is cut out to be successful. This is not to say that anyone is less worthy of it but Rush was presented with specific scenarios and acted on them correctly. Not everyone has had that luck/skill.

The big difference, which is obvious is the hypocrisy he holds. Since I haven't listened to him lately his tone could have changed but up to the last couple years i listened to him he took an extreme hardline on those who use recreational drugs.

I do believe his stance on individual and corporate rights is pretty dead on. (I don't know where he stands on the whole Patriot act thing). If he does support that act then that is how he's changed and any pure conservative would/should be against it.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact time he changed, it was subtle, but he's been driven into a fog and refuses to leave it. That's sad because I actually liked him. Now I can't get A.M. radio in where i work so I don't listen to any political views until I get home.
