The mushrooms in your sig may be pretty but they're definitely lacking strong bones. Add more gypsum.

Prior to yesterday I'd only watched a couple minutes of Willy's videos. I became so bored of his endless rambling I quickly moved on to something else.
This morning I woke up still chucking about Willy's Presto logic so I watched it again. This time I found the hook.
Willy's 5 tips and tricks for newcomers:(in reverse order)

Tip #1: Ditch your Presto. Gaskets are no Bueno: Buy a Mirro. (Psst, hey Willy, Mirro's have gaskets too.)

Presto's can't maintain  15psi: Buy a Mirro. (Hmmm...Mirro's don't have a pressure gauge.)

Presto's weren't built to sterilize grain: Buy a Mirro.
In summary, Buy a Mirro and ignore the rubber thing that comes with it. You'll never have to worry about reaching 15psi because there's no pressure gauge. Out of sight. Out of mind.

Willy advises to watch his video on Perfect Grains Every Time. I did. More on that below.

Tip#3: Pick Your Community.
Stay away from online messege boards. Those people are mean and hostile toward newcomers. They'll pounce on you for asking a simple question. They only praise experienced growers.

Join Willy's Trip Team. We are a welcoming and supportive community. We will shower you with free gifts and save you money by teaching you how to build your own equipment.

Willy's Perfect Grains Every Time.

Rinse Grains until water runs clear.
Soak Grains for 24 hours.
Heat Grains until air bubbles start to rise and remove from heat.
Drain Grains by dividing evenly on window screens.
Use the same screens you built for your homemade dehydrator.
Shake every 10 minutes until dry.
Test for dryness on toilet paper.
At this point Willy struggles to fill and fold a grain bag. He stresses the importance of never letting the bags touch the sides of the PC. To prevent bags from touching the sides, line your PC with foil. What?

I guess now that I have perfectly hydrated and sterilized grain, I can inoculate them in front of my Box Fan Flowhood.

I tried watching a few of this guys videos and fuck!!! He starts getting to the "subject", then he rambles on about hygrometers, humidifiers, etc.. If he would just get to the point without going into other shit and spouting out shitty info, he might have a shot at more subs... I've never seen a video from him with fully grown shrooms... He touts his grow tents and different "methods" for growing than the "standard" in growing cubes... It's hard to understand this asshat while he's wearing trust stupid fucking mask! Who the duck did he think he is? Bane from Batman? I only ever watched one of his videos in full and I wanted to cancel the Internet right after... I've seen 5 year olds that could stay on topic longer than Willie Yucko... I'm just another noob, but I know bullshit with I see and hear it.. You folks keep doing your thing... I'll keep reading..

That's actually more or less what I do, too, with a few minor differences. It just kind of gets worked into the rhythm of the days in question.

I don't do all that screen-drying shit, though. Very slowly up to a full boil, drain, and then immediately load into jars round-robin style so that everything can steam off a bit during the process.

I also started draining the soak water and doing a quick second rinse recently. It's vastly improved the smell during processing, as well as the cleanup process.

Oh, yeah, I also don't promote my method as anything more than what one stubborn individual decided was best for them personally. A foolish method rather than a fool-proof one.

That Tub girl  as you describe her  has a fair bit of traffic going through her YouTube channel.I’ve never understood it.Weird.As for Myco Willy, the less said about him the better.I knew straight away he was full of crap.30 minute videos which could be condensed into 5 minutes. The hand gesturing and mask just grinds my gears.

not trying to disagree with you or anything, but is there any real added value in rinsing?

ok now that I think about it a bit it might if there is a lot of free starches than can make grains to stick together same principle to when cooking rice but not sure if it really matters

I always rinse my grains clean, sometimes I even add a drop of dish soap. Hit up the millet prep link in my sig so that I don't have to write out why, again, lol.

I guess every grain source and type is a little different so I can't speak to anyone else, but I'm mainly rinsing dust from my grains. Probably crushed up bits of hull and whatnot. Lots of mold spores in that mix. And, it's just material that can end up all over the place in the jars, obfuscating my view and potentially causing issues around the filter/lid.

It also helps "wet" the grains before soaking. I can rinse and rinse in my colander, and the bottom layer of grain will still be dry until I hit it directly with the sprayer.
