It's been a few months but 99% of the stuff on YT I've seen is garbage, same with reddit. It's just a flood of inexperience repeating the same debunked mistakes and misconceptions, alot of them are just repeating stamet's book from decades ago that wasn't even accurate in it's time. Problem is they're all majority rule so tons of newbies repeating and approving each other drown out any experienced people and treat them like they're foolish. It's ashame they just don't know better. Shroomery (and I guess Nexus?) heirarchy systems of ratings, join dates, and tags seems to have a big impact and keeps us at the top of our field.

Yeah man it’s crazy how Reddit is like early 2000’s sites like mycotopia.  All the same shot we tried and debunked 20 years ago is running rampant.. refeeding, weird “casing layers”, daily misting and fanning, parroting horrible advice.. it’s ridiculous. 

I’ve got c/p saved messages for ppl that have 5 cakes in a huge sgfc.  All I can say is they respond well to pictures lots of irrefutable pics goes a long way at shutting up the ppl that need it.

Been thinking of starting a subreddit called “Mycthbusters” that (re)debunks all this horrible “technique” and outdated methods.. points out why most YBers suck and what they doing/teaching wrong etc.  haven’t really put a ton of thought into it but allowing only vetted posts and having the best of the best mod it etc.  that place needs it

The main reason I don't engage is because of the need to be anonymous. I just can't go throwing up references to our work on a site that will turn over ip's to police. I look forward to when all this becomes legal and a gang of us real growers can come out of the dark and challenge those charlatans in their own sub reddits and broad casts. I personally love debate and it's way easier when you're right and facing someone who is at their core being dishonest, it'll be like Bill Nye smacking down Ken Ham when it happens, but with mushrooms.

At the real core of it, we're far better for the simple reasons that've been said already. Here we focus on being better growers, teaching new growers the craft, and some are even trying to breed better mushrooms. Those guys are focused on views, promoting vendors, and not really much else.

Agreed.

The underlying issue with all of these folks, noobs included, is a complete misunderstanding of microbiology, mush cult is microbiology.

Without a very basic understanding of: sterile technique, equipment use/purposes, the fungal life cycle, bacteria, molds, and how it all fits together, at least fundamentally, will result in stratification; those who know the why and how, and those who bitch and moan about gatekeeping.

This is a pretty sciencey hobby, basic knowledge goes a long ways, without it one falls prey to snake oil salesmen with fancy yt channels with monetary production value but very little value with regards to the production of mushrooms.

Try teaching a pothead how to grow pot without proper lighting and ph, that's the cannabis version of UB.

Are you saying instapots are a complete no-go and this Tek is outdated/wrong or just the way willy says to use them? - never watched more than 30 sec of his vids so I'm not sure if that's the reference

Huh, and here I was trying to figure it out by asking a TC for guidance Especially a TC I've already gotten great info from before... Thanks BTW for your millet prep page, been using it to great effect bulking up my shiitake spawn for spring log inoculation.  Much better then 99% of the info from some of the youtube channels I've seen
