Took me about 3 transfers to clean up from what was a cesspool of contaminants, but finally got a few plates of my first pan cyan grow put on grain. Shit pic but still excited.

Is that Ps. cyan or Pan cyan? I've never once seen rhizo pan myc

I just had to go check the syringe label to make sure. Syringe labeled as pan cyan. Reputable vendor. But anything is possible. First pan grow so I can't say I can tell from experience.

Not listed as such. Again, very reputable vendor and sponsor of the site. But we all know accidents happen both on vendor side and on the end-user side. Totally possible I fucked up and labeled a batch of plates wrong. I'm feeling a bit deflated now after having so much excitement about getting pans to grow for the first time.

Nah homie rainin' on your parade is the last thing I wanted to do! That's a good lookin plate, 100% move forward with it. Run it the same way you planned on running Pans - if it is a cube it will definitely grow in that environment and if it's a Pan it will grow in a Pan environment :lol:

Will do! I'll read up on what the differences look like on grain so hopefully I can tell prior to putting in FC.

Plenty of good Pan threads on here, but it's supposed to be light and wispy..Kinda puffy, cloudy and tomentose but...not lol. The only reason I said anything is because it has a pretty distinct look compared to cube myc

Appreciate the reference pic. I feel like some of the plates I grew did look like your pic, but since rhizzo plate pics are cool I took a pic of the most rhizzo one. Totally possible I mixed in a cube plate I was transferring at the same time. It's on grain at this point so worst that can happen is I grow more cubes.

Guys why does my agar look like this? These are all transfers from initial plates (so A2A). Plates #1 looked great for each of these. I pick which plates to transfer based off how uniform the mycelium is growing and how quickly it consumes food.

I know part of the reason these are a little splotchy, on some of them, is probably because I touched my scalpel to the agar accidentally multiple times, during a transfer. But these honestly look kinda gross lol.


Am I transferring them wrong? Why do they get so sporratic? Also, a couple of these look low key contaminated to me? In particularly #3, in person that area to the left looks dark (dark gray/black not green but still). I've done several hundred plates over the past 2ish years and never had contams, so idk if this contam or not.











Edit: There's beautiful mycelium growing in these, I just don't know why it's so sporadic, like rizo mixing with tomentose.

yeah I agree 3 is contamed there on that spot. Normally if you flip the plate and shine light through it, from the back you will be able to see the perfect circular outline of bacterial growth underneath your myc, which causes a reaction in growth like that there in pic 3. Pic 6 it looks like you sat the transfer down for a moment in one spot a little to the left before putting the transfer there right in the middle

as to why the erratic pattern, how many transfers in are you? What variety is that? There is also the possibility of weird myc in several varieties of cubes. I have a BHT that gets all stupid and spiky and looks like it simply must be contamed, gets aerial, grows out of the edges of the petri and all kinds of stupid, but fruits like a champ :shrug: I eventually got the look of it on the dish right at about T10, while growing it all the way along as I made transfers. The fruits stayed the same but the myc really tamed a lot over time from spiky to really quite silky and tomentose in the end

curious to see what those more experienced have to say about your plates :rockon:
