dry wind can make them blue and sometime green like that, doesnt have to be frost

In my opinion , peak season has just passed. There will be some late bloomers, but I’m not counting on a solid second flush. I think that what is out there right now is the best its gonna get, and the coming rains might turn them to mush. The cold dry days and wind have been drying out the patches ive seen the past days, maybe some of the young pins will survive. Im not an expert but thats my thought

I saw a bunch of allenii pins today coming up. It’s only my second year actually observing the the cycles of allenii in the wild. I was surprised to see them coming up hard in spots that didn’t fruit at all last year. Also, I didn’t expect them to be coming out so late, but I was inspired by all these glorious mushroom pictures and had to see for myself if my spot was dead or alive. A lot of the spots I found earlier had a few lonely fruits that had come up, but there were a couple patches that were real late bloomers. They really surprised the hell out of me. The patch I posted a picture of had only begun pinning as all the other patches right by it were mostly going dormant. That picture was it’s first flush and it pinning. Going to collect prime specimens to print in a few days. Here’s some albino allenii I found way under the bushes.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Promising looking small patch [Re: justjarvis]

Went out for a bit of a hunt today, and spotted this promising patch.  I’m taking prints and will post an ID thread - but seeing bluing and similar characteristics to allenii (prime candidate) / cyanscens.

Was great to find as well - as it’s only my 3rd patch found in my experience (2.5 seasons).  And so far they are all relatively nearby vs the further away hikes and such.

Not even hunting today, just cutting through some woodchips in Mountain View that seemed too exposed to the sun to be a good spot, but found the biggest cluster I've ever found. Harvested about 20% of them, don't need a ton and didn't bring a bag to carry them in.

Back in the city today. Picked my first ever Cyans. And a few pretty straggly and stunted looking Allenii from a previous patch. I really wasn’t expecting to find anything in my first season, I’m so thankful to this nice community for all of the guidance and good advice.

For all of our sakes I’m making an offering to the gods of the second flush this week.

Hi All. I went back to an old trusty, WEll Known patch on my way to the bay today. Look what I found. A trashed patch, torn up wood chips, piles of rotten mushrooms everywhere, plants smashed, etc. This is exactly why you shouldn't post the exact location of your spots. And even if you find a new spot and think that you might be the only one that knows about it, don't post its location. Especially if its in an area where no one thinks that they could possibly grow. I get it, we get excited and want to show it off.
But the internet is not a safe place for special places.


Then I went by the patch that I created 15+ years ago and shes still pumping out fresh cyans. The Allenii have seen better days.



I started feeling a little nostalgic after seeing the big allenii that DanDurn posted. This is from a patch I created about 11 years ago. The first and second years flushes from a new patch will produce such meaty and healthy looking mushrooms.
This location no longer grows mushrooms :frown:
But before you get to see them. I know that I say "I created" a lot in this forum. A lot of you know that I go way back in this forum. I used to use a different name but I was banned too many times for talking shit, imagine that. But I used to make hundreds of pounds of birdseed spawn and spread it out across my 3 local bay area counties. Everywhere! And yes hundreds of pounds. Think how heavy a 25 pound of birdseed becomes when its wet. I would go to the mssf and hand out grocery bags of cyan, allenii, and azure spawn for the members to spread out wherever they wanted. I did this for about a decade. But I put up my glovebox and put away my All American many years ago. Now I just hunt. I do miss cultivation. But I dont have the time anymore.

Who’s is this DanDurd dude?! 🤣 Anyways, I think you’re a man of your word as far as cultivation goes, and I like shit talkers. 😆 Looks like we need to start a shroomery cartel that’s sole purpose is creating spawn to spread around California. Those are some awesome pictures and while that Allenii spot may not produce huge mushrooms, it sure does push out a shit ton of little guys.

Nice finds everyone! I’ve been living vicariously through you all, I’ve had 0 time the last few weeks to get out and hunt.

tahoe bummer about that thrashed patch, I wonder about the motives because I’ll see non-active flushes treated the same way. I mostly figure it’s some gardener/caretaker that doesn’t know the soil benefits of mushrooms or thinks all mushrooms are poisonous or unsightly or concerned dogs or kids might eat them?

What a bummer. Bunch of mis-informed losers. Or maybe ignorant landscapers. Or maybe a newbie got caught in the patch and abandoned the shrooms?

Time to camp out across the street and find out? lol.

Going to check some newly scouted spots after work today. Hopefully this rain has helped some pins i know of :yesnod:

I wonder if, at least on some occasions, it’s not dogs ripping up patches. I just saw one of two very small cyan patches I recently discovered that looked like a dog sporadically dug through a couple areas where there was a lot of mycelium. My dogs ripped into the fabric pots I was growing cannabis in this last fall (after harvest). They pick up the scents of the organic amendments I add and start digging through everything thinking there’s food in there or something. I’m sure a lot of the time it is people freaked out by mushrooms, and at least some of the time it’s people ripping up a patch to try and start a new one.

Birds are more likely.  Lots of fungus gnat larva and other insects live in mushrooms and myc.  I often watch bird species take shifts ripping them up and kicking around myc looking for delicious larva.  I watch squirrels rip them up burring nuts and then looking for them again.  Has nothing to do with the mushrooms for them, just on a nut hunt and the myc is in the way.

If you're seeing constant turmoil at at patch then sit across the street and watch it for an hour or two.  I learned a lot that way.


All of that said, what tahoe posted def looks human caused.

Interesting about the birds. The cool thing is hopefully they’re getting into some spores at some point and flying to a new spot to let the whole patch making process begin again.
