Foam Yoga Blocks for breaking up spawn.

I been using these foam blocks for the last couple of years. So It's not a new tool of the trade.

I highly suggest using these blocks for having a safe surface to break up your grain.

That’s an awesome idea on the foam blocks! I need to pick one of those up. Also need something plastic and square to put in my SAB so I can set plates on top of it to keep them elevated at specific points in the process (I do use a wire rack on the floor but like to keep an open plate up high between the time when I remove a wedge, and putting the wedge in the grain jar).

So simple it’s stupid but these scoops are saving me a lot of time, one of the best little things I’ve got for this game.

Hell yeah man a scoop and funnel make a huge difference.

I just use a Gatorade bottle  cut the top off and it works as a funnel and the bottom of the bottle as a scoop.

I glued/taped old plates together in stacks of three and use those to elevate things

What do you guys think of these as lc containers?
These

The mouth is wider than a media bottle for dropping a wedge. $32 for 12 500ml bottles. Autoclavable.

I saw Nate uses glass reagent bottles in his sslc tek with the price on these it's appealing though 10 250ml media bottles is less than $20 more.

It's important to have crystal clear visibility when bottle is held to a light source.

That's how I determined if I have bacteria or other unwanted contaminates..

Yeah I think I'm going to grab the media bottles or mod some of the 1000 pint jars I already have. Maybe just pick up some syringe filters. Until I can spring for a 12 pack of media bottles.

Why is it I find myself looking for new toys constantly

Meh, with jars you’ll probably find it just trickles down the jar. That’s why the smaller opening of the media bottle is much better.

Media bottles are superior because of the no-drip ring that snaps around the mouth but pint jars work good for me.

(Exuse the mess...)
Occasionally, it does trickle down the side but it hasn't caused any problems for me. The fuller the jar, the more likely you're gonna make a mess trying to pour.

I still worry that somethings gonna latch onto it and use it as a bridge into my media so for that reason, I've started only making enough media in each pint for the amount of grain jars that I wanna noc.

Lately, I've just been using 25g of media per jar and 4 jars per mono. 125mL is enough for the 4 jars and a little extra to put on a plate. If I like the fruiting results, I can use that plate to nocc more LC and keep the culture going.

Eventually, I'm gonna get a nice pipette and make big jars of cultures that I wanna keep around.
