My province was the first in Canada to lift all restrictions in July, the government even made "Best Summer Ever" hats to promote our freedom. We had a large event (Calgary Stampede) where on site distancing restrictions were promoted as being oh so great. But right off the grounds we let bars and night clubs open with no restrictions beyond fire code numbers. And the percent of people with two shots then was really low.

Two months later all the restrictions are back, we have by far worst covid numbers in Canada. Other provinces envied our maskless all open status, for about 2 weeks. Then our Covid numbers went up, and and up, and the government couldn't admit freedom summer was a huge mistake. They even dug in and ended mandatory quarentine and made testing harder to get.

"Health Minister Tyler Shandro said he and his colleagues "honestly thought" more of the public would be vaccinated by September when they lifted restrictions in July."

WTF kind of reasoning is that? Our numbers of total vaxxed were shit and you ended all the restiction anyway, just so you could have

Lol. It doesn't matter.

Increasing the demand for medical personnel drives up the price of employing them.

As long as people keep filling up medical facilities with unexpected numbers of covid or COVID-complication patients, medical personnel will continue to be in high demand.

None of the medical workers I know are very concerned about catching covid. Because even though it happens enough to worry about them as carriers, it is so tame when it happens that it is worth no more consideration than your everyday coronavirus sickness.

If you want to stick it to the medical workers or whatever, the best way to do that is to not get hospitalized for covid and get the hospital population down so that admins aren't having to increase wages to retain staff and managers aren't having to give massive amounts of overtime to anyone thirsty enough to take it

If you get covid and get really sick you have no alternative but to seek medical care. The fact that you didn't last time you got it or whatever is irrelevant. Many of those hospitalized with delta had previously had covid in 2020

Let's be honest, it really is one helluvuh hat.

I think everyone at some point last year thought they had covid. I'm wondering how many of these folks saying "I got it already and i was fine, my antibodies are better than the vax" are in for a nasty shock when they actually catch it.

Why would anyone want to stick it to medical workers ?

If I worked in a hospital I think I would have been more fearful and more likely to get a vax

Or if I thought I was high risk to catch or spread or was routinely in high risk atmospheres or circumstances

Or if I thought the vax would work and last longer than what I suspect it will. I don't think the vax will do what people are claiming and making it out like it will do, if everyone would just get it.

I'm still waiting to see if this story throws some wild cards

How did we end up getting over the flu? Natural immunity I'm guessing since a vax was developed so long after?

The flu killed just over 600k people? Wonder what percent that was in the population at the time compared to what 600k is today

I’ve seen hcw post that they’ve been advised to not wear scrubs outside the hospital because of threats. Antivaxxers think they are committing war crimes and are part of a vast conspiracy lying about covid

That’s for people who are required to be in quarantine. Instead of putting them in quarantine centers they can stay in private homes and check in with that app

You can’t move in between Australian states without quarantining.

Florida and Australia have similar populations. Florida has had more cases in the past three days than Australia had had in the entire pandemic. So yeah Australia has done a pretty good job stopping the spread

Ahhh quarantine! That makes sense. A few people have been obsconding from their quaratine locations back into the community so this is likely a result of that behaviour.

Last i saw it was just above 30% for fully vaxxed and above 60% for partial vaxxed. And trending upwards.

Now considering we dont make it here and had to rely on securing our supply from over seas its not really the citizens fault for the vaxxed rate. Also for a long time we had covid cases very close to zero compared to elsewhere in the world.

As a nation we are on track to be at 70% fully vaxxed by end of october.

I dont think its pathetic.

For a long time we didnt have anywhere near the case numbers of other western countries so i guess they had priority in getting the vax delivered to them first.

When someone passes from covid in australia, its in the news.

Thats how few deaths we have from it.

Starting to think things are a little out of control here in the states.

I know I'm late to the party.

Not just covid but the divide and all the extra shit on top of covid revolving around covid.

My personal apprehension toward the vax seems to be irrational yet I can't seem to overcome my mistrust and skepticism.

No matter how much data or info I see supporting the vax, I still can't seem to get over my initial feelings and views toward what's going on which largely seems to be just a complete mistrust of the powers that be.

I would feel like a complete idiot if I ended up with covid and needed to go to the hospital.

And I'd feel horrible if I got people sick.

Yet contrary to me claiming I wasn't scared of the vax, that's the only thing that makes sense. I must be worried about the vax and mistrust it even if that isn't a rational belief to have.

Hmm. That's really something.
