Why do electric boats suck!!! 😡 * 1

Last weekend we rented a wakeboat for Jess’s birthday weekend and spent the weekend boating.
And well... now I’m pretty hooked!

I’ve been shopping for a wakeboat ever since getting back, I first went to check out electric wake boats, this one specifically:

And well I’m rather disappointed... 2-3 hour is all it gets off one charge? Really!?!??
If that’s the case I guess that’s out of the question sadly, I’d like to have as little of an environmental impact as possible but that’s just ridiculous.

Do we have any boaters in here that might be able to point me in the right direction?

I really like Nautique and think their vessels look beautiful but I’m a complete rookie to all this so any suggestions are going to be helpful.

This is the current vessel I have my eye on since the electric one is no good.

I'd imagine electric boats suck because of the amount of horsepower needed to get a waterskier/wakeboarder up out of the water.
Probably need an even stronger engine for wakeboarding, since you'll add a bunch of weight to the boat to make a bigger wake.

2-3 hours in a high power boat is probably equivalent to a 400km commuter car. Electric will always suck, until the batteries get bigger. Then they will suck more. I think it's funny that people are so hype about electric. A lot of the time it's more or less just an alternative rather than something better. Stick to combustion. Lol. Electric is just a trend and a way to diversify the market to make more money. Capitalism thrives on having ideas, they don't need to be good ideas. They just have to sell it. You know what's next for vehicles? Synthetic fuels, e-fuel. Combustion. It's literally better for the environment, proving that combustion has never been the issue only profitability vs innovation. Electric is a fad, Tesla being the Apple products of the auto industry.

An electric boat with a cord would allow you to bypass the recharging issues

Electricity, mostly, comes from combustion anyway.
Power density of batteries is ridiculously shit and water is hard to move through.

Because you can't really go fishing with them.  A 3 hour charge?  Mind as well spend about 200k on generators for a real trip, boating OR fishing.  Guess what a generator runs on? If you're idea of  boating is able to be done with a 3 hour charge, you must be having some jaw dropping adventures.  :asianofapproval:

Make a bank of deep cycle batteries then hook them up to an array of solar panels mounted to the boat to charge them.

On nice sunny days, if you can keep the batteries in float charging, you can possibly boat around all day long.

If you're willing to drop a quarter million on a boat I'm sure you could afford bells and whistles.

Boats are extremely inefficient at higher speeds. Water is a dense material and the resistance it poses to motion is a function of the square of your speed. There’s also no mechanism to use a boat’s momentum to regenerate power.

Electric motors are much more robust and powerful than gas engines tho. A fast racing boat that only has to run for a couple minutes would be an excellent place to use an electric motor

I get feeling most of the posters here have never owned a boat. The mushroom forum is probably the worst place to ask about boats.
