Personally I've eaten the little red leaves at the tip 'once a day in the month of may' for season long resistance. In 30 years I haven't experienced an episode of an "accumulative effect" so I'm inclined to believe that your source is mistaken.

OK, I admit that brushing the underside of your forearm with poison ivy will result in a mild irritation when taking the preventive medicine, and additional applications with the intent to force a reaction may result in just that, but on the whole in my experience the practice of micro dosing poison ivy is well worth the trouble for those of us who enjoy rolling in the weeds.
