Experimental Rabies Inoculation
    #5862670 - 07/15/06 07:03 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

It may not be common knowledge that Tequila is traditionally distiled from a brew containing Agave, or that a steroid used to treat sinus related infections is isolated from Agave leaves, or that Agave/Yucca flowers are pollinated by bats.

I read somewhere that Agave/Yucca flowers steeped in alcohol were a precious remedy and having alcohol and yucca blooms handy (and a healthy sinus infection)I determined to experiment.

Since the open flowers had bugs I steeped only buds for a couple days then drank the brew over a couple of days and within a week my sinus condition had almost disappeared. Coincidence perhaps.

Having had success with ingesting young leaves of poison ivy to achieve season-long resistance I considered the open Agave flowers and the possibility that they were laced with rabid bat saliva and so mashed some in a stainless steel bowl before ingesting. The rest is waiting in the freezer until more alcohol appears.

If a calf shouldn't be boiled in it's mother's milk then I suggest Tequila not be used if this experiment is repeated because of possible interaction.

-Update 7-17 2006-

2nd tablespoon of frozen mashed flowers ingested.
Noticeable nervous tension (side effect of the steroid?) Nasal passages clear yet experiencing ear popping and drainage. Slight disorientation and brain swelling feeling.
--------------

-Update 7-19 2006-

3rd tablespoon ingested.
As I chewed the frozen Yucca flowers I had a distinct urge to have more. Maybe this stuff is addictive. I feel better mentally & physically then I have in I don't know how long, but my sinuses are not as clear as I would like. Brain swelling and disorientation not as pronounced. Slight discomfort in the lungs as if I had run a long distance.

I heard the bats twittering around the plants outside my open window last night and today I took photo's of the plants before harvesting all the flowers. Now I have like 2 pints of mashed flowers in the freezer. I don't know if I will take anymore after tonight, other than adding the remainder to a bottle of spirits.

-Update 7-20 2006-

Flu-like symptoms, congestion in throat and chest, aching joints. Lack of energy. I'm wondering if these symptoms are psychosomatic in that I'm looking for something so I find it. Next time I think I will experiment only with unopened buds.

From: http://www.animalhealthchannel.com/rabies/symptoms.shtml
"Once infection occurs, the rabies virus grows in muscle tissue and may go undetected for several days or months. During this incubation (or latent) period, the animal appears healthy and shows no sign of infection. Usually within 1 to 3 months, the virus migrates to the nerves near the site of the infection and spreads to the spinal cord and brain (i.e., the central nervous system). It usually takes from 12 to 180 days to spread through the peripheral nerves to the central nervous system. At this point, the disease progresses rapidly, and the animal begins to show the classic behavioral signs of rabies. The virus spreads to the saliva, tears, breast milk, and urine. The animal usually dies in 4 or 5 days.

Rabies causes typical symptoms. The infection progresses in a predictable manner, from the initial prodormal phase to the excitative, or furious, phase to the final paralytic phase.

The first sign usually is a change in behavior. Pet owners should be aware that behavioral changes can occur as a result of many conditions, from digestive disorders to poisoning.

Rabid animals usually stop eating and drinking, and may appear to want to be left alone. After the initial onset of symptoms, the animal may become vicious or begin to show signs of paralysis. Some rabid animals bite at the slightest provocation and others may be somnolent and difficult to arouse. Once the animal shows signs of paralysis, the disease progresses very quickly and the animal dies."

-Update 11-15 2006-

Continued 'unprecedented' lack of ear congestion, which could be the result of not using Marijuana. I would have to regain a marijuana habit to be see if Agave flower buds do relieve the congestion I associate with Marijuana use.

Various side effects which may or may not be associated with aging. Wikipedia remarks: "The period between infection and the first flu-like symptoms is normally three to twelve weeks, but can be as long as two years. Soon after, the symptoms expand to cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, progressing to delirium."
