This will probably get absorbed into mushboy's (glorious) tea thread at some point
anyway. It's inevitable.

I don't really agree 'cause it's about cultivating myc in a particular way.  Cultivating stones is similar (unless you fruit the myc later) where you get actives without fruiting.  The only question I have about this method is whether it actually works but that's probably going to be down to individual experience to establish - I can see how it might work.  Making stones is as easy as inoculating grain and letting it sit, this is sort of the same kind of thing.

There's a question I've had about species other than stone producers for a long time, because if you let some strains of cubes sit on grain long enough they start to produce stuff that looks sort of like stones.  I've never tested it for potency but will when the opportunity presents.  Since I'm such a slow-as-shit cultivator I've often ended up with jars way past their spawn date.

Maybe there's not a good place for it.  Maybe a new forum for "grow yer own actives that aren't fruits or stones or cactus".  I can see why you don't want it in general cult because there's so much there already.  Maybe a subforum for "specialized methods" or something like that where people can get more technical rather than just posting "looks bacterial". :laugh2:

I can attest to the fact that the method does work surprisingly well, but the potency of mycelium seems to be characteristic of the particular species mentioned in the tek. 1 level tablespoon of dehydrated whole kernels (incubated 2 months) equals roughly 1 gram dried cubensis. Making tea from the kernels is as easy and effective as making tea from dried fruits.

It’s really simple. Find genetics of a species known to be active in mycelial form. Only two are known with certainty to be active; Ps. caerulescens and Ps. semperviva, but experiment with others and report your findings. Incubate hydrated grain for 2 months. Break up the grains and dehydrate for 24 hours. If using brown rice, grind it up and mix into a smoothie or hot chocolate. If using large kernel grains like oats, barley or wheat, simmer and stir in a pot of water for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid through a coffee filter or mesh strainer, and mix in some tea or cacao with the strained liquid. 1 level tablespoon of dehydrated whole grain equals roughly 1 gram cubensis. Drink it slowly (over 45 minutes to an hour), as this stuff kicks in very fast and comes on like a freight train.

Growing mushrooms in vitro isn't any more difficult or require any more resources either so I don't see any possible advantage to doing it like this even if it does work. Also at least with in vitro mushrooms or sclerotia you know for certain what you're eating. I would not feel comfortable eating spawn even if it looked and smelled normal.

My understanding is that it's only been done with caerulescens and semperviva.

No one knows what species it works for and doesn't work for except those. Stone producers would probably be good candidates.

there are plenty of reports of people dosing on cubensis, 1 in this thread which was ignored for some reason, and some other species have been confirmed viable. I was quoting a few TCs recently in the sclerotia thread. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22527453

I want to try it on PE myc.

I recently heard a report from a trusted friend that the mycelium of Panaeolus cyanescens is not potent enough to be of any use in this application, so check that one off the list. Howdy Asura!

It is in the top 2 recommended by a user called ranonar who grew it on soft agar.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7680529

I would recommend you check all his posts, he does not have that many.

A user called Mycofile reported massive increases in potency of cubensis which were allowed to consolidate for a long time, like 6 months. I have read a fair bit about eating myc and it would seem that it does need time to become viable/potent.

These are photos of colonized popcorn which was put in a blender and then allowed to recolonize, this was to maximise myc production.

Forum description says "This forum is dedicated to all aspects of cultivating psychoactive mushrooms.", as the bulk of his text is about growing myc and sterilization then I would also think it is better placed there.

I would have strong reservations about the fractional sterilization instructions, which could be dangerous if eating the actual grains. It is being called Tyndallization, but in texts I found by John Tyndall he warned against what is being instructed. More info here
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21174437

It might work but I certainly would not recommend this  30mins heat, 24hr incubate instruction.

Here are some photos of brown rice inoculated with Ps. semperviva and incubated for 2 months. Notice the intensity of the oxidization on the dried grain:

Thanks for this great info blackout, I’ve got a lot of reading to do. In regards to the concern about fractional sterilization (Tyndallization), I’ve experimented with it using a variety of media and have yet to see a contamination. Simmering the grain in order to make tea would go a long way to eliminating any undetected contamination I would think. I’ll read the material you posted. In the meantime, proceed with caution I suppose.

A very awesome post, blackout. I have a bunch of it bookmarked and have already started reading it.
Was hoping for more information like this. My original comment was geared towards this specific
tek, which is being done elsewhere, but I knew that there must be more information. Love some of the
crazy stuff you can find in the deep archives of time on here.

Just to be clear on this, he was NOT eating the myc, he was fruiting it and found huge increases in potency in the fruits.

I have some of his quotes here

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23805486#23805486

The FBI were supposed to do some tests on colonizing jars and they proved to have no actives. This led many to believe it was not worthwhile, but they were supposed to be jars which were just starting to grow, which really proved they need time, as there is no way so many people would be lying about the effects for no reason!

Here is another one to read, which is similar to my blending of grains,

The actives are secondary metabolites so you wouldn't expect them to be produced in substrates that are still colonizing and I think that's probably true for all species. So I don't doubt that time is an important factor here. I've noticed spawn that has been sitting around fully colonized for a while is more likely to bruise. Maybe that's an indication that psilocybin is eventually produced even without fruit bodies.

Given the very positive attention that Lion's Mane has been receiving lately, it's worth mentioning that this TEK is equally effective for cultivating Lion's Mane mycelium on rice. According to Paul Stamets, the mushroom mycelia is actually more abundant with hericenones and erinacines than the fruitbodies, so one could easily dehydrate inoculated rice and grind it up to add to smoothies etc. I eat it almost every day personally. I just inoculate jars of rice, break up the spawn and cook the fresh rice spawn up with eggs and vegetables for breakfast, or add to soups, smoothies etc. It's easy to make large quantities, it tastes great and it costs only a fraction of the price of mass-produced product.

Re: Myceliated Grain TEK (moved) [Re: don_shadow]

There seems to be a lot of controversy around the point of mycelium versus fruitbody potency, and I’m having trouble finding a reference to confirm what Paul said in the interview. It seems that the mycelium produces various substances that are not present in the fruitbody, as it has to defend against underground predation. It seems that both the fruitbodies and the mycelia produce unique compounds independent from one another but the varying quantities produced by each is not well established. I attended a lecture by Dr. John Holliday, vice-president of the international society for medicinal mushrooms, and he stated that eating fruitbodies, mycelia and the substrate of most medicinal fungi is recommended for maximum benefit.

I am somewhat skeptical of many of Stammet's claims. So I don't
take anything he says at face value. I know of people that are in the process of working on supplements and their main
differentiator is that their supplements will be from fruit bodies.

With that said Lions mane if left long enough will fruit in jars eventually
so you can get both in that instance.

However, I have recently purchased chaga, LM, shitake, turkey tail and LM
and plan on growing it all out on rice.

Yeah I’m a little sceptical too, especially since I’m sure a huge amount of Paul’s revenue comes from Lion’s Mane products. I’m definitely not saying he’s just in it for money, but I mean, the guy has a lot of power. Regardless, cultivating on rice is incredibly easy and cost-effective. And I’ll echo what you said about fruiting from the grain; my culture often fruits even before the jars are fully colonized, so there’s always a mix of fruitbodies in there.

Exactly. Growing out on rice is easier and that's what he's taking
advantage of. He can go on Joe Rogan and make the claims and
now there are several million people that take those claims as facts.
And they are headed to Host Defense with their wallets open.

Not saying it's bunk but I'll keep an open mind around it for sure.
