One plate per jars? That seems like a waste. I'd do 4 jars per plate at least. Putting in more than one wedge isn't going to do much to speed things up because one wedge will colonize all the surrounding grains and you quickly have plenty of inoculation points for when you shake it up. Multiple transfers to a single jar is multiple opportunities to contaminate things.

Also I usually shake it lightly so some grains cover the entire piece. I wouldn't shake it too much though because the wedges will get stuck around the lid sometimes where they don't do any good.

Ive only ever used one piece.  I figure opening that jar more than once outweighs any benefit from multiple wedges.

If it's polypropylene, a PC cycle.

If it's polystyrene like disposable cutlery, you don't.

This Is my routine:
I take a unopened bag and open It in the flow.
I pull ten spoons out and place them on a soak paper towel of alcohol.
I spay each spoon down with alc. Then cover with another soaked paper towel until time of use.
So I can't say I'm sterilizing them.

Where did I say that?  One plate per jar IS a waste.  Maybe you're getting the words "plate" and "jar" mixed up.

i only have 4 jars to knock up and i have 4 petris so thats why im using a whole plate per jar also this is kinda a crap shoot for genetics my plan is to take a clone of a nice cluster once i get these 4 shoeboxes going then ill make more than 4 jars

so i did my transfers and the jars that i decided to shake, the agar just stuck to the side of the jar and no matter how much i shook the jars they wouldn't budge so thats rather annoying however im sure the grains knocked off some mycelium from the agar anyway only time will tell now.

That happens sometimes. I find that if I just keep shaking, really hard they eventually move. Also do side-to-side & up-down shaking.

The pieces of agar tend to move relative to how you're holding the jar while shaking.

Also, if you keep shaking very hard the agar wedge will tear up into smaller pieces which create more innoc points

I like my agar to be slightly on the hard side..
It chops up nice an no sticking to jar lids and side.

Agar will loose Its jell effect overtime and you'll need to add more agar to get the same effect as a new batch.
Check the exploration date. After a year you'll need to add more to your recipe..

my agar must be super sticky because i have shaken as hard as i can for like 10 minutes straight and non of them are budging maybe i used to much agar

Maybe your grain Is on the wet side..
I hardly ever see allot of moisture in my grain jars (oats)

i just bought the agar i already threw the package out it was the telephone brand agar
i think my rye is dry enough i let it steam dry then after the steam stopped i had a fan blowing on it for a few hours felt dry to the touch and no moisture in the jars

I did try to warn you :grin:

If you want inoculation points, a larger wedge will touch more grains which will create more inoculation points sooner. No need to try and break the agar apart or spread it around, the grains will do that when you shake it later. Just get it so the colonized side is touching the grains.

if you flip the jar end over end a couple times slowly (instead of shaking) the wedge usually ends up around the bottom of the jar.

lol i should have listened i only shook 2 of the 4 jars so at least there not all stuck on the sides of the glass
it looks like all the mycelium is off the agar that is stuck to the glass from shaking the jar so much hopefully it will inoculate the grains

i tried shaking the jars up and down and side to side and just flipping the jar nothing got them to move so now im just gonna let them sit there is still one or two agar slices on top of the grain and like 4 stuck to the glass so ill just wait till the grains start getting colonized then ill shake it
