WBS jar stalling after agar inoculation (photo)

Any thoughts on why this is? Do my grains look okay?

Chill dude, your post has been up for an hour. Your jar will still be there and no one likes double posts.

You're giving zero information on this as well. How long has it been since you put it in the jar.

edit: also, don't think that your second post is what made someone finally respond to you. I would have seen this post all the same in the 'recent posts' section and would have clicked on it with or without your second post.

Could be a lot of reasons, cant say from just the pic. Your WBS does look a bit weird though, is it burned? Was your pressure cooker out of water during sterilization?
What tek did you use to prepare your grains?

I did a cold water soak for 24 hours (with gypsum). Then dried with the help of a fan. Sterilized at 15-18PSI for 2 hours, then inoculated with an agar wedge. It's been a couple of weeks since inoculation.

I don't want to give much opinion on how it looks (because I'm not sure), but I will say that you should just throw the whole agar puck in the jar next time. It'll speed things along a lot faster

That mycelium is looking pretty thick, I'd wager that if it's stalled you have bacteria. Did you vent your pc?

I did vent. Regarding bacteria, is it safe to assume thats the culprit even if there is no smell or that gooey discharge that usually pops up? I've had a few of these jars now where I've popped them open after weeks long stall and they smelled fine.

Click the clean spawn link in my signature, it covers all of those things in detail.

But to answer your question directly, yes. Smell isn't a reliable identifier. Bacteria will cause a thickening and slowing of mycelium. Your jar looks bacterial to me, especially when considering that it has stalled which is very typical of bacterial infection.

looks a little creamy to me, could be bacterial

Yea ive had some gross bacterial jars that smelled wonderful and ive only really seen the discharge (other than like this clear jelly looking substance) once it was spawned. Im super new thou mind u

This is precisely the reason I went through the trouble of writing out that clean spawn checklist, for instances like these. I think you would both benefit from reading it over.

At the bottom of the post there is a prep checklist that may help as well. Clean spawn is king, without it you can't achieve a great grow.

Thanks so much. Reading this right now.

Question: you wrote "Check hydration by cutting open your grain to see if there's a white, starchy core. You want that core to have turned clear. This does not apply to WBS, millet, or any other seed, just to large cereal grains like oats, wheat, rye."

How should one test proper hydration for WBS then? I often find that after a hot water soak the larger grains are soft enough to smoosh between my fingers. The smaller seeds however always feel like undercooked/hard rice.

If you soak or boil seeds they will be good to go, no need to check them because they're soo small and will readily hydrate. Don't worry about checking your seeds, just follow whatever tek you prefer for prep, there's a ton out there.

I soak millet for instance (one of the smaller seeds in WBS mix), seeds are hard before they're run through the pc cycle.
If you want to see how I prep them I have that in my sig as well "more inoculation points for less"
