mini monos help please :)
    #26183168 -

Images of mini monos, they are shrinking fast, here are images of surface moisture and subs. I cant seem to find any signs of primordia but that may be my lack of experience. What im asking here is, is everything looking okay? if not how can the conditions be improved. day 14 from bulk spawn. TIA :rocket:

Good question OP, they look heavily overplayed. Do you have holes for f
A.e and if so how many and roughly how big?

The yellowing of the mycelium is the first indicator that I can notice from the pics that would suggest overlay. And I can't see any primdora formations in the close ups so you are probably in trouble.

Wait for some more opinions on this one but if the common response is overlay then you can only fix it by a deep scratch... using a sterilized fork to maul the surface about a half inch and then let it recover and fruit again.

It works...I once put perlite in a casing layer and the powder from it clogged the surface and devoided it off f.a.e ....overlay does the same thing....a deep scratch helped me out of that situation.

Loads of FAE, 6 ~1,5 inch holes with polyfill, misting has to happen about twice a day to maintain surface moisture, lids dont seal completely (clip on), temperatures are between 25-30 around here and its dry. Misting happened before images were taken. sub is coir/cpoo no casing.

Completely bacterial and fucked. Throw that shit away.

Probably had dirty spawn, and no need to use shit with coir :facepalm3:

Agreed. If a different jar was used for each mono and they are showing the same results, either the PC used for prepping spawn or the thermometer used when pasteurizing bulk doesn't cut the mustard. We would probably see better results spawning BRF cakes to bulk in plain coir even if the equipment was dodgey. Thats what I think anyway, please let me know if I'm wrong, thanks for all the replys.

A hot water bath 99% of the time will suffice  for pasteurization so long as the bulk materials dont float to the surface and stay fully submerged.

What did you use for bulk? It looks like a straw based substrate?

I wouldn't say all hope is lost, they still look ok enough to bury outside as suggested.
Here's a pic of a recent tub I did op, it defiantly had a small bacteria contaminate present in it but went on to produce 7.5oz dry in 3flushes, you still might yield on yours.

You give garbage advice and tell bs stories.

OP, forget that tub, fix your spawn prep to eliminate bacteria and don't add shit to your coir.

There are two schools of thought on here: 1., throw out anything that's not perfect and start again, and 2., isolate and observe.

Unless you have a viable next batch in the works, I'd say isolate it and see what happens. Ease up on the misting and try the scratch method.

  • Wheat/Rye Berry Soak Re-hydration - Half fill all containers with grain. Empty in pot with water. Soak for 6-12 hours, air dry until surface is completely dry.
  • Grain Jar Sterilization - Run 2 - 2.5 hrs on PC

I tell stories? Or just examples of previous failures and successes.... hey now, let's tell the experienced grower to shut up while we go read more tutorials and think we cultivate mushrooms but probably dont even know how to make a clean syringe.....which is common place on here....if it wasnt, my feeling would have been hurt.

Literally just look at your rating. You commonly give bad advice. OP has one of the worst contained tubs I have seen and you're telling him he can save it? Lol.

I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you either.

Holes are completely unnecessary.

Yeah, but then you use those syringes to 'noc grain and then wonder why it's contam'ed, so...that destroys any credibility for me.

Yeah why the fuck would I bother making a syringe when I can either do G2G or make a clean LC with agar. I wouldn't ever waste my time making syringes, lmao.

Do not think that's common here, I think you're just silly.

Yeah, those tubs are fucked, top surface anyway. You may get some side pins that night fruit but other than that they're trash sadly. Scratch method may work but I highly doubt it.

Yeah man, when you get that thick, SMOOTH SURFACED (emphasis on smooth surface) mycelium like that, it's game over.

I think you get that from aggressive misting, and/or too high temperatures and/or contaminants.

The only thing Ive heard you can do with that is deep scratch it.  Just run a fork or something all through there to bust it up.  I do not know the details, Ive never done it, but you could research it.

It would be about the only thing I can think of to try.

But I think your'e fucked, in all honesty.

I bought one of these kits a few years back when I was first getting into this hobby. Regarding the rake method, it's pretty straight forward:

That said, forks don't fix bacterial infections. Good luck (you'll need it). Let us  know what happens!

Derailing ops thread but I have to comment.

If you had read the post you would have seen where I said I had expected to lose some jars due to my pressure cooker not sealing, so the psi hovers between 14-14.5psi when grain requires 15psi to force the heat to the core of the jars, the only reason I'm having success with 11 of 13 is because I redistributed the grains and pc'd again or else all the rye jars would have wet spot which is actually a archane bacteria found mostly in grain products.

Mushroom caps do not grow with that type of bacteria, mold spores are the only airborne contaminate that could contaminate a print but that's not the problem (nor has it ever been a issue) unless someone leaves there prints sitting out in the open in a draft then there is little chance of mold spores landing on then... my problem wasnt a dirty syringe since bacteria replicates itself very quickly, if it was bacteria introduced by a dirty syringe then all 23L of popcorn/rye would be contaminated as I stated in that thread and if it was a mold contaminate then it would be the same thing.

If all spore syringes were dirty then pf cakea would be useless, you cant innoc a cake with a agar wedge and that would be my point...dont argue or you'll group yourself into the misguided.

This is RR's advice being deformed to a unhealthy level of paranoia. He was the one that said to treat all syringes as if they were dirty...he never said all syringes were dirty but he wanted everyone to ensure success by making transfers on agar "just in case" the syringe was dirty.

Again, read what I said about pf cakes...

Another method of testing a syringe was by using a control jar... does no one use a control jar that they monitor for the days leading up to germination? Bacteria and mold will germinate side by side with cubensis spores....you dont need agar to test. No one ever brings up the control jar testing

Another thing relevant to ops post is that overlay is hardened mycelium that turns yellow...bacteria bubbles and festers when its dominate over mycelium. OP only has yellowing of the mycelium, if the tubs do not have a odor of sweet/foul then it is defiantly just a overlay issue.... I need to start collecting pictures of bacterial tubs so I have something to un fuck some peoples heads with.

Every time I post a tub of mine i get the response "bacteria" even though its healthy and fruit fine, ms genetics will give up some crazy mycelium sometimes and that gets confused for a bubbling bacteria contaminate which like I said would produce a odor, if op fans and mists and it smells like fresh mushrooms or earthy then all my money is on a overlay issue which I cant tell where to pinpoint the problem since he/she claims to mist and fan regularly.... stress and to high of a humidity would cause it... I never mist my tubs all the humidity comes from water evaporation from the substrate... invitro fruiting in bags is the same deal.

My apologies to you OP, I dont like being questioned by people that cant make a clean syringe or have zero pics of their own grows. In experience speaks for itself especially when most accounts follow that myth that all prints are contaminated... and not "to treat all prints like they are contaminated" two different definitions that have been misinterpreted.

Hopefully you try a deep scratch, if it recovers then the mycelium is healthy, if it falls to contamination then come on here and tell me that I was wrong but I'll rest assure that I've seen tubs like yours on my end before...over misting was the culprit.

When you don’t wanna learn agar so you write an essay post trying to make it seem like a good idea. A “controll jar” 😂😂😂

You failed to explain to the people interested how a pf cake can be inoculated without a spore syringe.

And then question the use of a control jar used to test a syringe...same damn thing as testing on a petri but apparently even though it's fine for testing its ineffective? That's the definition of a oxymoron attitude.
