Soft and Impressionable (Checked 3 sources and genus still unknown)

Day 1 (from when I first discovered them):

I found this type growing out of the soil on the outskirts of a woodlands area on a Caribbean island (prefer not to state exact location). I couldn't smell anything unusual and all of the ones I had seen were a little over an inch in height, but two to four inches in diameter. They are mostly white, but some have a brownish, burnt marshmallow color to them.

They are extremely soft. I lightly touched one (the small one in the first photo), and my imprint left a permanent mark. The base of the shrooms is spread out. The mushroom base looks like spilled paint.









Day 3: When I touched them this time they seemed firmer and less impressionable. The color is turning darker brown and I still do not smell anything. It had been raining, and they felt slimier this time around.







Day 4:The center was still firm and the color lightened up, but when I touched the edges, they were soft and impressionable again.

Day 5:
We haven't experienced any rain recently, and they have turned darker in color again. I am curious if the color and texture depends on when the shrooms are observed. Day 4 photos were taken in the morning, while day 5 were taken in the afternoon. They are mostly firm, but still feel soft around the edges.

I can't tell you what exactly they are, but I might be able to put you on a track to find out. They look like they are stemmed polypores.

Compare to species such as Amylosporus campbellii

I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Thanks Magic Badger. I asked an expert on another forum and they said that A. Campbelli is a very good ID proposal.

Do you have any resources on where I can compare the other species of the Amylosporus genus.

Laetiporus persicinus is most likely what you have.
