Panaeolus foenisecii/Panaeolina foenisecii, are these considered to be the same mushroom? I know it sounds stupid but I'm unsure. from what I've read, the panaeolus IS active while panaeolina is not? Confusing.

This is why I asked the question; excuse my ignorance. I realize they are the same NOW, but different publishing and different genus names/spellings misled me. I'm sorry but you could have been more understanding and simply answered my question as opposed to using your vast knowledge of mycology as means for showing superiority. Maybe you just didn't see my question which I asked later (refer above). If the previous is true, I'm sorry for taking offense.

You're still missing the point. I was wondering if the Panaeolus and Panaeolina were different, and if one was active or not. I know that they are one and the same and inactive.

Apparently you are missing the point. You answered your own question.

The genera Panaeolus (25 species) is not the same as the genera Panaeolina (4 species).

Panaeolus have black spores.

Panoilina have brown spores.

There is no species known as Panaeolus foenisecii.
There is no species known as Psathyrella foenisecii.
Yhere is no species known as Psilocybe foenisecii.

But there is the species known as Panaeolina foenisecii Maire.

Is that too hard to comprehend?

mj.

About that banana phone, haha!
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...t=1#Post2728901
by the way nice find

Alright, What the hell is going on with this bannana-phone business.?

For some odd reason i think that the bannana-phone was made up by me when i used to smoke a lot of kind buds and lived with somebody and i had a computer there and we used to joke about mjshroomer calling on the bannana-phone when one of us wanted to smoke buds and we would jokingly pick up a bannana on the shelf and hold it up to ears like it was a phone and say that mjshroomer was calling on bannana-phone and that he wants us to smoke buds.

This is weird. Either i was really high and read somewhere on the shroomery about the bannana-phone (this was all over a year ago) or somebody i used to live with spread the bannana phone joke to others and they spread the bannana-joke back to the shroomery and now we have a bannana-joke ring-ring with mjshroomer calling for us all to smoke kind bud.

That is the only answer i can come up with.

The person i lived with and did bannana-phone-joke with told me the other day that the shroom_wizard was calling her on the bannana-phone the other day, well, i corrected her and said that the wizard never called on any bannana phones and that was strickly a phone line reserved for mjshroomer to call.

And now there is a bannana-phone at the shroomery and this computer has no volume so i can't even here it.

But i do have a couple fresh bannana's in the fridge back at home.

Keep shroomin

And thats the story./

It is funny but I actually tallked to Michael Kuo about his post oin panaeolina. And he still has not corrected it.
ADN as for the toddlers, you should read my Paneolina paper with mark Merlin. I investigated all theree of the published noteed pertaining to possible toxicity of this shroom with young childrend and fondn that none of them were really sure what the child in each case may have consumed.

Orson Miller's is the one who climed that small children may graze on shrooms. While most children (rug rat stage) do have a habit of putting clumps of dirt and other floor trash into their mouths, they usually spit it out when they realize it taste m nasty.

It was becasue of RObbrs an TYler and Ola'h who produced false positives of Panaeolina foenisecii form mixed collections that they identified it as psilocybian.

In my paper I actually talked to the my6cologists involved in their original papers on this shroom and all of their responses are reported in my paper. Three analysis claimed it was psychoactive and then mmore than a few hundred since say no. Of course we all kknow they6 do not contain psilocine/psilocybine.

There are also still dozens of mushroom field guides which still list it as possibly psychoactive, etc becasue of its association with other species of Panaeous. And still refer to it as a Panaeolus.

And since spore colors are what, at least for the present, are used to differentiate families of agaricales, the brown spored Panaeolina could not belong to the family of Coprinaceae which have black spores and include Coprinus, Panaeolus and a a few other nminor genera.

So brown spored = no activity= Panaeolina
black spored = potentially active= Panaeolus

MJ
If you ever find any casters or acuminatus, please give me a PM for an addy to ship to. I would really like a specimen or two for refrencing.

mj

and have a shroomy day
