Trump promises he will force Big Pharma to lower drug prices

President Trump said Friday that he had a plan to force Big Pharma to lower drug costs so that the US would pay no more than the country that currently pays the lowest prices.

“We’re going to be announcing something very shortly, a favored nations law,” the president said outside the White House as he was leaving for a weekend trip to his Jersey golf club.

“You know, for years and years other nations paid less for drugs than we do, sometimes by 60 percent, 70 percent. We’re going to be and we’re working on it right now, we’re working on a favored nations law, where we pay whatever the lowest nation’s price is,” Trump continued, adding his familiar refrain that the US was being ripped off by big pharmaceutical companies.

“Why should other nations like Canada, why should other nations pay much less than us? They’ve taken advantage of the system for a long time, Pharma, so we’re working on right now a favored nations law so that whatever the lowest nation is anywhere in the world, or company, then what happens is we will pay that amount. That’s being worked on right now,” Trump said.

He did not provide other details of how the plan would work.

I'm sure he's probably doing this to get reelected but wouldn't it me incredible if he pulled this off! I imagine health insurance would be less expensive if this happens. It seems like every presidential candidate claims their going to do something about big pharma but they never do it. If he actually accomplishes this will you vote for him in 2020?

I call bullshit. His own party will fight tooth and nail to protect their deep pocketed donors. The democrats are no better. They will make whiny noises about the problem but will do nothing because they're bought off as well. At least republicans are blatant with their corruption. I like that in the way that at least you don't have to guess that you're going to get fucked. It's easier to take if it isn't a surprise

No cuz I don't vote. It's a pointless exercise. The electoral college is who decides who is going to be president.

That would be amazing if that could happen for you guys, I always cringe at the cost of healthcare in the US when I hear about it. You guys are being taken for a ride big time.

If it could be implemented then national free healthcare could also be realistic.

I hope it's true, too, but this is how Trump works.  He's trying to plant some seeds of hope into voters/fools so he will win in 2020, and then all that hope will turn to disappointment and pain for those who believed him.
Don't let one good-sounding thing he says override the plethora of inhumane, non-American, narcissistic things he utters on a daily basis. 
The man is no good and only cares about himself and money.

I'm kind of afraid of universal healthcare to be honest with you. I know it's worked in other countries but I'm not sure if my government would handle it the right way. I hate the idea of them controlling what we pay for universal health care because they fu-- us all the time.

It would definitely get him reelected. I've never seen a president do something like that. I guess we'll find out.
