drug related superstitions?

for every different place I live, there seems to be a different set of "codes" everyone accepts.

FOr instance, the spot I lived in FL has a widelt accepted superstition that white lighters were bad luck, and a good reason for getting pulled over.

Also, it was pretty much "known" (lol) that the stems of shrooms were a cause of bad trips.

anyone else heard of this, or have your own?

I've heard that white lighters thing, its stupid... but I've gotten more than a few free lighters that way, they say shit man go ahead and take it its your bad luck.. haha, but wait I do have bad luck

uhhh.. I can't think of any others. except for the classics.. acid stays in your spine.. pot makes you stupid.. I hear those or similar things from time to time

:lol: that is too funny about the stems!  I always heard there was stryccnhine (SP!!!!!!!) in acid.  And that MJ causes small penises and low sperm count.  And acid will cause flashbacks. And people lace all sorts of stuff with pcp which will cause wild killing sprees....

I've heard the white lighters thing too, but generally it's amongst really tweaked out individuals as far as I can tell. I met a guy once who wrapped black electrical tape around all his white lighters so they wouldn't be bad luck.

I still have a group of friends that swear by the white lighter thing.

Even the lighters with the decorative wrapping are unlucky, because they are white underneath the plastic wrapping...

they go for the clear kinds (well, blueish clear, reddish clear, etc. since clear-clear is still white in their minds), since it has no white plastic at all...

hehe crazy right?

The white lighter story must be universal.
I've heard that 3 on a match is unlucky, and when you buy a pack
of cigs, turn the first one you take out upside down, make a wish,
and smoke that one last.

haha, in a sense I guess so, but you can't describe an group of people as "ignorance" although, it does make it easier when you don't want to think about it. Which could also be considered ignorant.

I think humility, and being able to accept the fact that you will never know everything, will allow you to learn more things.

Man, that's crazy about the lighter stories.

Where I'm from, no one wants to take a white lighter because there is the belief that they will always die in a "session"(smoking grass). When you want that next joint in the worst way...sure enough the white lighter will not light.

I wonder how things like this get around to so many people.

It was yellow when I was in college. One time in a room full of acid heads I whipped it out and I actually caused a few people to freak out, I was asked to keep it in my pocket or leave. Of course the only thing I could do was fuck with them, I never heard of anything so stupid.

Actually, hallucinogens CAN cause flashbacks, a condition called "Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder" (HPPD) .

One cigarette brand gives you one green papered cig to make your wish on. I believe its Salem.

And the white lighter thing.. Wow, the bics with the decorative wrap rock, I usually get those. Your friends are extremely supersticious. A plain old white bic though.. I usually buy singles, but if I buy a five pack I just dont get a pack with white ones. It seems like they stopped making regular white ones in pack, they use a tan/khaki color now. Which I love cause it matches my cargos  :grin:

i dont know why everyone is so supersticious of them. I just dont get them cause I color coordinate my lighters with what i'm wearing or my piece, and not to much white is in there  :tongue:

i haven't read everyone's yet, but those are great.

I've heard the lighters thing, but it was red lighters. Red (bic) lighters with the red tab thing (to let the gas come out for the flame). To make it not back luck you were supposed to break the tab off. I had a red lighter and someone broke the tab off w/o my permission and i was like "um...yeah, i don't believe in that crap, thanks for messing it up".

But once after school a few years ago, me and my friend were walknig around teh block hitting a chillum. I was taking my hit and i looked through a window and saw an old lady staring at me and saw her pick up a phone so we rushed down the block and cut through a yard. This one house looked empty so i stopped to take my next hit and in the middle of that the person in the house let out their 2 dogs on us, so we ran, and then my friend was taking his hit on the otherside of the block and right as he took the pipe down a cop roled by. This was all with my red bic lighter, but if it were such bad luck i guess we woulda gotten busted.

Stupid rumors are funny to here, but when you try to correct stupid ones (for example stems of mushrooms causing bad trips) and the person is SO ignorant about it, it's really annoying and sucks.



I've heard people say "after you take acid, whenever you crack your back you have a flash back..." and shit like that.

Once this senior to a freshman told him that you could eat stems and get high. So the freshman bought a stem fromt he senior for 15 dollars and ate it...i don't know what he said about it getting him high or not, if he said he got stoned he's a dumbass...well the kid already was a dumbass.

Man those kind of superstitions piss me off the worse...I knew a girl once that was convinceD that acid left calcium deposits or something to that effect on your spine, she said that a doctor had even pointed it out in an x-ray of her back once and that he had known what they were and that she had taken acid......she was also convince that if you cracked your back it could cause a flashback...I tried to explain to her how this main no fucking sense at all, but she'd have none of it. I mean I've got a million stories of people believing bullshit like this, and the people who believe this will never listen if you try to tell them otherwise....I mean never. That's whay gets me the most is that they just won't listen to reason.

I knew this guy who ate an 8th of nuggets to get high. He said he got really high, but i was under the impression that you have to cook the weed into something. Correct me if i'm wrong.


Or i know some peolpe that eat roaches. Even if that get's you high, i'm nto bothering doing that, sounds like it would taste nasty.

And someone over the weekend told me to mix bong water with something and drink it and i was like i'll pass on that.

i think they are all red, but it's the red lighter, so the red on red is bad luck, so that's why people would break the tab off of the red bic lighter. THen it's not red on red anymore. It's somethign likethat, i don't know, i don't care, i just wanna get high and any lighter that creates a flame that can spark my bowl/joint i'm fine.

Yeah you do have to cook the pot with a lipid (i.e. fat) for example cooking it into butter, or making bhang with milk. And I've seen people who eat their roaches too, which I've seen take on a superstition of it's own.

yeah.

A really funny one that i ahve heard is if you take too big of a hit you could die. Sure, maybe that could happen if you were smoking the most gigantic bowl ever and had like pounds of weed forced into your lungs, but with a .something gram bowl thats not gonna happen, unless you have some weird disease where if you smoke weed you die? Or if you hold your hit in too long you will pass out or something. So much ridiculous stuff.

My cousin didn't smoke weed at first because he thought you could OD from it. He thought of weed as a really dangerous drug at first.

yes, you need to cook weed with some kind of lipid (fat) for it to be efficient at all. Of course you could just eat it dry (unless you have a live plant), but its better to let the thc soak into some fats / oils, because it breaks down easier, and you don't need as much.

I have also drank bong water. I used to have a tiny little bowl (about the size of a lighter) that had a bowl, tube, and a small glass jar-chamber with a black rubber stopper in the top. It held maybe 1/4 the amount of fluid that comes in a visine bottle (for comparison only). This is when I was probably around 14-15, but after I was done smoking, I would drink it (less than 1/2 ounce). I don't recall it tasting good, but I was positive it got you higher. I wouldn't do it again, unless its a double dare; or money / etc is involved.

About OD on weed, its very possible. You will get dizzy / sick / goto sleep.

About a FATAL OD on weed, this was actually researched and posted in Time Magazine about 3-4 years ago. Turns out you need to smoke over 2 tons of marijuana in one sitting (one day) to get a fatal overdose of THC, but you would suffocate from all the smoke first, so yes, it is impossible to die from smoking weed (unless you get cancer, than thats a diff. story, but also debatable).

I've heard that white lighter thing way too many times.  It gets really annoying.  I've had to explain to people that my lighter is off white, and therefore safe. :rolleyes:

I remember hearing someone comment on another off-white lighter, saying how it is a "wolf in sheep's clothing"

It's easier to forget about these superstitions when you realize that what you are doing may be punishable, and that you need to accept that risk.

I'm guessing that it's because white lighters are easily visible. IF you're out smoking in public somewhere, and a cop comes by, he might not notice a hastily-concealed black or clear or whatever lighter, while a white one would be more obvious.

I think that flashbacks are somewhat different from HPPD. I've had 'flashbacks' of a sort, when all of a sudden my mind slips into that ecstatic state that I get when I'm on hallucinogens. It's nothing radical, and it doesn't last long, and happens maybe once ever few months, and is usually entirely welcome when it happens. Actually, every time it's happened, I've been in bed, getting ready to sleep.

if you believe that stems will make you have a bad trip, and then you eat them, you quite possibly will have a bad trip because of the placebo effect or whatever.


My friend and I always swing our arms like we are jerking off with a lighter before lighting a bowl. Its usually 3 good yanks like 6 inches away from our chest and pivoted out like 2 feet if that makes any sense. Its kinda like golfing and having that pracise swing. or something

I never heard the white lighter, but i always take off child guards and the stickers on the back of bics. Always. I won't use one that isn't modded my way.

I fast for at least 6 hours before i eat mushrooms.
