man's future * 1
    #26024974 -

I don't see man's future as terribly bright, but I do hold the hope that this species squeaks into the terminus marking the end of one phase of history and the beginning of the next. God will have to be very much with us if this is to come about, perhaps. Disaster lurks everywhere.

What are your thoughts on this? Will man destroy the life-sustaining capacities of Earth and go extinct? Will civilization continue much as is, only gaining technological sophistication as man retains his current form? Will we see a genetically engineered super-race? Will man merge with machines? Will autonomous A.I. beings take over and make man irrelevant? Would such a thing lead to our demise, as useless vestiges of obsolete organic evolution? Or are there other possibilities? I'd be interested to hear your take.

I'm pretty optimistic in general. That disaster lurks everywhere is true, but it has always been this way.

I don't believe that man will destroy life-sustaining capabilities, but has already had a large effect in changing how sustenance is maintained. Despite the state of things now, I'm confident we will overcome this as life is adapting to a human world. Mass consumption doesn't stop carbon and nitrogen from being pulled back to Earth in plants, we're setting up conditions for life forms that will thrive in this new environment and restore balance in time.

We will most certainly see a genetically engineered super race, Pandora's box is open on that one, and survival will eventually depend on it. It may not be for centuries or millennium before a clear line can be drawn in the sand that separates modern humans from a whole set of new races that are clearly superior, but it's necessary for adaption and long term survival of the species.

Man has already merged with machine. Technology is very much a human organ. If you told a man a thousand years ago that he would be able to talk with someone on the other side of the world in the time it takes a candle to hit your cornea, he wouldn't even be able to relate it to telepathy because no such concept existed at the time.

I think we are a long way off from A.I. taking over intelligently. I'd be more worried about how people with power use A.I. to their benefit, because humans in control can use A.I. itself to build systems more powerful than A.I. that isn't under control. Sentience will develop naturally over the next few thousand years I feel, but we have a significant degree of implied power over an artificial intelligence even if it thinks and feels better than we do. We have the advantage of mastery of the environment that the A.I. exists within.

I think the present (bad as it may be though still less labor intensive than in the past) is a product of a relatively small group of people. The cars, roads, traffic signs, buildings, and all the things that go in buildings are the result of scientific discovery and engineering.

As a rule, cheaper is better. This has created waste but technology may eventually rise above this issue... waste is after all, wasteful.

Genetic engineering and AI may play a prominent role in the future but I don't see it as a near term happening.

I was riding down the road today counting cars. over 60% of vehicles were large trucks or SUVs. Much of the remaining were muscle cars, luxury cars, etc. that don't get good gas mileage. The only people driving economical cars were the dirt poor. People bitch about gas but sure do use the shit out of it. So, it will take small groups of influential people to create actual change, whether more considerate genetics, father AI, or near free, clean unlimited energy, or maybe just an anthropomorphic ELE... no people, no problem. The majority of humanity may speak good intentions but they have an alter-ego who just wants what they want. Spend, consume, greed for more, image, polarity at all levels creating enemies, hate, craving.

I appreciate your optimism, but I don't share it, and honestly I do hope I'm wrong. You say that carbon can be captured by plants, but the net change in presence of trees in the world is drastically negative. Deforestation is a critical problem in dozens, if not hundreds, of countries, e.g. Bolsonaro's policies in Brazil, where the intention is basically to rip up the Amazon for development. I have a problem, too, with the mass extinction that is going on. People may say that animals are worthless, but I, for one, do not like to stand by while billions of years of evolution are erased. Then there is the question of ecocide. Many ecologies around the world are simply being destroyed, and it's impossible to say whether this will amplify and cause serious, life-and-death consequences for humanity. There is in fact a lot of evidence suggesting that it will, especially when you look at what's happening to the insect kingdom.

On your technological estimates, I don't see it taking hundreds or thousands of years for these things to transpire. I think by 2040 everything will be completely different, regarding both genetic engineering and A.I. It's impossible to say how, however. I agree with your comments about man and machine.

We may be a long way off from A.I. being radical, but no more than a few decades according to most experts. Once again, I think your timescales are far, far too great. Clearly, a robotics revolution will have to take place, and A.I. will have to become sentient. But, once again, most experts place this at only a few decades away at most.

I just can't be sanguine about the environmental situation on this planet. Dominoes are already falling, and the hope of all humans is that they don't all topple. Add to the mix over two billion more humans before 2050, and this place becomes a real tinder box. Consumption like that will be hard to sustain, even with significant technological advances. And we absolutely have to get off of fossil fuels. The global climate is changing even faster than originally predicted, and this is having real, measurable, extremely serious consequences -- like the hundreds of tornadoes that have taken place recently in places that never see tornadoes. I'm not sure how you can be optimistic, but that is not a criticism, and I very much appreciate your post.

I think our era of mass brutality we've just been through is over. There is still brutality but I can't see any Omaha Beaches happening again, or Iwo Jimas. At least we've made progress on the brutality thing.

As corrupt as USA is I think we need to keep this hyperpower alive to ensure the safety of democracy in this world, since certain laws and constitutions prevent America from abandoning such values. Without democracy it's back to the brutality of the Hitlers, Stalins and Mao Zedongs.

I mean really, go watch a few history docos. We are actually insane in the 20th century, like it's Armageddon, and we've been through it. History is a nightmare gone wrong.

What am I saying? Well, I'm saying it can't get any worse?

In my humble opinions,

If establishment trends and corporate greed continue as they are we will come to something along the lines of Elysium with a powerful few and an empoverished many.

But holding out on hope I don’t think that will happen, there are progressive populist movements about and efforts to clear the flagrant corruption of US politics. And I use US as an example because it is an example to the world. If things go poorly in the US the whole world can see, if things go well in the US the whole world can see. I’m hoping on the later.

I don’t believe AI is a threat but that doesn’t mean I don’t think there’s any chance of a mass virus, but then again asteroids are a chance too. So computer viruses might be something but I don’t see how machines could take over anything. An AI system may be able to take over systems like in a factory or cause fires across the country but the movement of the actual machines seems limited.

The US is now trying to make climate projections stop before 2040 when things are projected to get the worse. It’s blatantly clear the current administration has profits above all else.

Where I live we had the hottest March on record this year, and yesterday the coldest day of May recorded. If anyone with establishment connections wins the next US election I’m afraid we will not recover. If not we may have a chance if we act as soon as possible but I believe there will be a storm to weather before the long term benefits of renewables come to fruition.

One of my greatest fears is propaganda. Blatant political lies, like the other day when a GOP congressman said Medicare for all would double all taxes. Additionally he claimed it would cost $30 something trillion while failing to mention the current healthcare system costs upwards of $40 trillion.

Liars in Congress need to be challenged and shamed and removed.

My overall view is simple, charlatons have too much power.

I’m very pessimistic about the future. I have no confidence in the ass clowns in Washington. In the end our greed will be our undoing.

As it stands you have reason to be, but there are those fighting for change and whatever your affiliations this may be an interesting read.

When I look at the young kids, like teenager young, I actually feel optimistic.  Whatever the generation after millineal is called.  Maybe it’s just my experience but they seem to be bringing some kind of vibe that say Donald trump and Nancy’s generation did not.  It would be hard to explain what this is exactly but I believe I see reason for some optimism.

Not to rain on your parade, but when I look at young kids, I see a severe addiction to electronic devices and action on screens. This has been proven scientifically to be detrimental to the brain's natural functioning, especially if exposed to from a young age. What that means, we'll know in a few years, I suppose. A whole generation with damaged brains and potential mood disorders on a wide scale = not good.

Well that’s part of it.  They’re utterly obsessed and welded to tech.  From a young age.  They will not be fooled by it.

While it might seem appealing to grab someones attention by referencing research that suggest screen use, and especially video gaming, affects the brain, it also often leads on with the assumption that any effect on the brain must be harmful.

There will probably be a solid demand for mental health prevention/treatment because 6 year olds just had to get to level 14.  Then the tv show.  Then basic math exercises.  Then Skype dad.  Then listen to thunderstorm simulation podcast.  Then wake with alarm clock.  Then stare at computer during school.  Rinse repeat.

Humanity will either go down the shitcan because no one ends up giving a fuck about anyone but her/his family, or we'll go back to our divine nature like we had before selfishness took over. Terence McKenna told us about the reality of Eden from his perspective, which was the essence of what we had before (it wasn't just Eve and Adam, God gave out many human souls in that era and humanity had absolute liberty).

Selfishness became the status quo about 300,000 years ago according to some sources, which seem good enough for me to assume I'm not talking bullshit. Terence explained that at this point, the human male went off his meds (magic mushrooms) and started noticing all the shit he could do to ensure he always got heterosexual sex whenever he wanted, which unfortunately for everyone this last 300 millennia, he thought was better than drugs. This included claiming ownership of the children he conceived. Original sin is a complicated thing. Adam and the apple are used in the Bible as a metaphor for males and their imposition of patriarchy on females at the time of the Fall, I'm obviously not a Creationist, God put souls in the most evolved primates and made paradise for a while with immense amounts of intellectual progress being made while high on shrooms.

We either continue this violent, psychopathic culture and society that restricts liberty as much as possible without motherfuckers rioting all the time over it, or we get woke and do the right thing for our species and our environment, which consists of liberating our physiology, our emotions and our intellect so that we can fulfill our potential. Nature is crucial in this.

I do think Jesus will be back from His paradise planet someday, but if He sees this fucking shithole, He'll just take as many loyal people (not necessarily believers in Him, He doesn't give a shit what anyone is loyal to as long as it's based on love) to outer space on His fleet of alien starships and then instantly destroy Earth. If we want to survive the Apocalypse in general, we have to care, we have to have empathy and respect and put the effort into achieving universal love and peace as much as possible.

I kinda feel the same. Its a huge bump at end of terminus towards the new age. And according the manuscripts whether in case of a disaster or not, with the help of a "Divine Hands" it will be short live like a thunder & a twink of an eye.

the new age will be towards quantum communication/connection. Whether it relies on technological advancement or not, communication/real time interaction(love & compassion) is a must. The next era will focus on the healing of the earth and deinduatrialization after the dark huge quick Bump, Eg. reforestation for food without the use of synthesize chemicals. the next era is about refinement of our ways. a merge of learned tech & TEKs together with our primitive ways of getting things done.

I love this just incase. quantum connection/clean cheap energy/cheap education/ alternative medicines. List goes on..

  • Will we see a genetically engineered super-race?

  • Will man merge with machines?
In my opinion where already abit merge with it...

  • Will autonomous A.I. beings take over and make man irrelevant?
This is quite scary but i have a feeling where far from it.

  • Would such a thing lead to our demise, as useless vestiges of obsolete organic evolution?

  • Or are there other possibilities?
The Bump Could be a beginning of shortlive dark modern age. Shortlived by Unity.

Is also hoping w/ Faith.
