Well, haven't posted here in a while. Found a couple of lonely subs on a quick little bushwalk around the hills today 😁

P.s. if anyone has the time to PM me about some tips on hunting Milk Caps and Porchini's it'd be much appreciated. Keen on finally getting some edibles this year. The hunt is 70 pecent of the fun of this little caper 😁

Loving the pics! My find was a regular spot for me but this year my focus will be on finding new patches down south, the ones I've been relying on seem to be getting popular.

Milk caps seem to be virtually ubiquitous among pine plantations, along with plenty of edible boletes if you can get them fresh enough. Haven't found porcini though.

How long do you dry it.  It's a poison it's a poison! I reckon they used to throw it in the mix way back

You need to be doing quite a bit of research before even thinking about consuming either Amanita or Datura...especially Datura.

All the information is find able and if after your study you do decide to go down those paths there will be people here who can help.

In the meantime this is not a thread for those type discussions.

I decided to collect one of these today... Not this one though.



I think I've read enough that I'm interested in the effects, but I still have a bit of reading to do on prep... It almost seems like a fine line between making them safe for consumption and inactive.

Also found a scattering of (per my limited experience, waiting ID) P.Subs. But I don't have any habitat pics to share :blush:

Head to the valleys in the pines for saffies/milk caps, they are easier to find than subs so you shouldn't need too many more tips. Post pics when you find some. Porcini is not easy to find this year so I hear, look for oaks or get lost in the pines but don't get your hopes up atm. Good luck. :thumbup:

Thanks pineninga that thread helped alot!! Took your advice and have just started hiking! Hiking hiking hiking everywhere I go haha trecking through different areas that are similar to the ones that are described in the post mainly through Cleland/waterfall gulley area but still haven't found any subs or anything I recognised as edible....went out yesterday all day and going out again today, am seriously on a mission to find my own this year guys so any help is much appreciated  haha on another quick note could anyone tell me if any of these are of any worth it all, edible or active just so I know to keep an eye out in future, been spending all my nights reseaching different threads and looking at what different mushrooms look like trying to familiarize myself with some but it's alot of information to absorb and am realising that because all mushrooms can look completely different depending on the different substrate and phenotypes it's not just a matter of having a picture in my head and matching a name to it you've really got to learn the intricacies of the fungi world or have some one physically teach you first hand for you to be able to go and forage safely and intelligently. but with time comes experience and I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before I find something of worth :smile: I know there are no pics of gills or spore print for these but any help would be much appreciated

I think there’s a ton of useful and very helpful info on here. You seem to be asking for locations of patches but I doubt anyone will be willing to give it away. As you now know, finding a patch takes effort and work. Enjoy nature and the thrill of the hunt. You’ll strike gold sooner or later.

Had a look around my home patchs in the north yesterday. Lots of pins around but only 5 mature specimens.

I picked them thinking I'd get a haul worth drying, and when I couldn't find any more, I figured the right thing to do is just eat em.... It was the first time I'd eaten a fresh handful, and fuck me did they taste like ass :lol:

On the plus, a mild trip seemed to cure my cold  :strokebeard:

For anyone planning on hunting the north, the inactives only really poped up here mid week, and the rock fern's just started to sprout, so I predict the next few weekend should have a way better yield.

That's the way it goes. I spent two hours on a hill today and right before I left I found some. You will find them eventually.

Great to see the thread becoming active. Also good to hear the North is happening. Mostly pins about for me. Though most the spots i know of other people know about and at least one of them has been picked unfortunately.

Thought I’d found some P. Alatucea in a patch know for psilocybes. Roots seem to be a subtle shade of blue. Alas I’m fairly certain they’re imposters:

Amanitas are out in abundance in the south - no subs whatsoever. Anyone had better luck in such regions?





Am unsure of what the second item was. Seemed to have a blueish stem (as depicted); possibly just the mycelium?

Yep - those pictured in my previous post today were from Southern regions (what I'd consider Southern anyways - the peninsula is surely South of me). I reckon I just got lucky though - most of the spots I checked had no Subs, and one that I thought for sure I'd see dozens, I only saw 3. Only 1 spot of the bunch I checked had got started.
