Found some marasmius oreades(?) on the lawn next to a servo today, I'm seeing mushrooms everywhere I go. Not eating them, but exciting none the less.

Hi everyone!

Great to see some familiar faces and some new faces, and great to see the season starting up!

I've been having dreams on a weekly basis about picking since around the start of April (seems to happen every year too, anyone else?) so I'm keen as a bean.

In my 5 previous years of picking I have only ever picked p.subaeruginosa, so this year it is my goal to find and identify a new type of active (p.alutacea, perhaps). Wish me luck!

Also, I will hopefully be heading down south this Sunday, so I will post any pics and give a report for you all too.

Hi All,

Thanks for the great posts so far, especially Bobwastaken.
Hope you are all enjoying the rain.
I had a brief look in a couple of spots in the central hills yesterday.
Lots of pins and a few mature specimens. Next week they should be thick on the ground.
What is the P. Alutacea look alike with the slimy stipe in the photo?
No action on non active edibles yet.

First Sub of the year and a possible P Alutacea, just taking a spore print on that one as not sure, seems to be bluing at the base of the stem. Central hills today.

Hey Tedias,

I'm not sure about the possible P. Alutacea in the 4th photo.
It was growing on kangaroo dung and there was maybe a hint of bluing. I've always assumed this indicated P. Alutacea, but I haven't investigated further. I'd be happy for anyone else's input.

Sorry all for answering my own post.

Just looked at Bobwastaken's excellent guide on P.Subaeruginosa/Alutacea and can answer my own question about the P.Alutacea look-alike with the slimy stipe.

Stropharia Semiglobata.

I also think that photo 4 above is likely P. Alutacea, next time I see one I'll pick it and take a spore print.

Congrats on your first subs for the season. I'm not so sure if you have P.alutacea there. A spore print and a few more pictures would clear things up.

@Deep state
Picture 4 is P.alutacea and a gorgeous specimen at that. Next time you find a specimen take a close look at the base and also the substrate. Often there's bluing evident on aborts or mycelium where the roo dung contacts the ground.

Hilltop hoods would have known this spot.  Tried to get a little habitat shot too.  It's actually a sacred site if you do the historicals

Always leave the pins(so some younger enquisitive mind can ripthem out😗)  I don't want the rest of these mars bars I bought at the shops.  If anyone hascherry ripes or Twix

Was working in the hills today and finished work early. Doesnt take a genius to guess what happens next. Lucky i brought my camera with me. I checked two spots, one wasnt fruiting at all, the second i found these but the surrounding areas werent fruiting. Here are some pics for you to enjoy.

Hey team.

Went out for my third attempt today, found a bunch more inactives and after 2 location changes and about 7 hours hiking I was packing up and went for a quick leak about 15 meters from my car and what do you know, the gods were a little kind. Got these few (last pic) and a few much smaller ones waiting for me to pull next weekend.

Well it's really kicking off now! Found some new ground today, pretty darn stoked! The lasts two photos I think could be Alutacea? I'm not sure :shrug: sorry there's no sense of scale.
