Egoloss and Shulgin's ++++
    #2591807 -

What do egoloss and Shulgin's ++++ imply about the afterlife? Perhaps a loss of individual identity? Any and all ideas welcome!

What do egoloss and Shulgin's ++++ imply about the afterlife?

Absolutely nothing. How can one compare a live fully-functioning brain to a decomposing, rotting brain? How can such an artificially-induced mind-state, wherein natural neuro-transmitters are temporarily replaced with synthetic chemicals, confirm a wishful fairy-tale?

You know that feeling you get when you get off on your own scientific analysus? Well, imagine a feeling of oneness with the universe... divine insight never before achieved.... and then tell me it was all just the effects of a molecule interacting with a living organ without any other explanation than just simple chemistry. Look around you, dude.... your skepticism is cool... you can figure out how this works and how that works... but you will repeatedly fail to answer WHY... and that's for a reason, man.

after reading that thumbprint thread, i've decided that perhaps there may be a divine one-ness, truth, eternity whatever you wish to call it, but i think i'll wait for my death to meet it. sounds too crazy for me  :crazy2: :nut: :whoa:

I've experienced this many times. In fact, I have it all documented, rather meticulously in my trip journal. But somehow I've still come to the conclusion that it WAS all due to drug interactions with my brain. And while I understand, completely, your awe with this sort of experience, I find it no less mystical that a clump of gray matter and a few grains of a certain molecule can produce such magnificent subjective experiences.

I've addressed this fallacy of questioning before... but I'll restate.

WHY NOT?
I don't think there MUST be a reason for anything that happens. A cause maybe, but that's no reason... there's not necessarily an intention behind that ultimate cause. I'm satisfied with "just because it can" as the answer to my "WHY?"

I've addressed this fallacy of questioning before...

And your thread was mostly ignored. Instead of looking for an answer to a question, first one must ask if the question even makes sense or if it is possible to answer it given more knowledge. Then one must look at one's underlying assumptions before attempting to delve deeper as the premise on which the question is based may be false.

Modern neuroscience has come a long way, but it has not yet explained how the experience of consciousness actually occurs. The brain is most certainly linked to it in some way, with it's electro-chemical system, but it may not be the only cause of the conscious experience.

That being said, there is no way to rule out the possibility that some part of our consciousness is able to exist separate from the human body

Tren, tren, tren...

How does the fledgling neuroscience's inability to explain consciousness equate to your leap? Why must the gap of ignorance be filled with mysticism?

That being said, there is no way to rule out the possibility that some part of our consciousness is able to exist separate from the human body
Instead of using the logical fallacy of negative proof, why not ACTUALLY posit facts to back-up your contention?

I'm not here for an argument

I said it was a possibility. That is all :smirk:

OK, but with an infinitude of "possibilities" why choose that one?

come on swami....you never got that good old fashion feeling at all!?! with that, some people ask why and others ask why not. i think it all depends on personal experience.

what is fact swami? the majoral agreement upon an opinion.
i've said this too many times to count. fact quickly becomes fiction.

I believe once we find out all there is to know about the human mind and the workings of the universe, the existence of an afterlife and the chakras and enlightenment, we'll both gain and lose much. More likely than not it can all be explained scientifically, maybe the astral projections and near death experiences are just the DMT being released in the mind and there truely is no spirituality, no afterlife, and no energies besides the physical matter and energies, but that would be a chaotic day. People need hope, and with all hope of loved ones existing and an afterlife continuing gone, it will be quite interesting.

If it does happen, I hope I live to see it.
