Oh interesting why would they do that? Wouldn’t that kill the cows?  I know nothing about this stuff, at least to me spreading something like nitrates wouldn’t be as visible as the limestone right? I should’ve taken pics, there were some in tact chunks still, but most of it was pretty granulated.

If it was granulated, it is most likely nitrates, used to fertilize the grass. Sometimes they spread lime to alter the ph of the soil, but this usually blows up a huge plume of white dust. Just look up Google images of lime spreading and fertilizer spreading, it should be easy enough to tell the difference between what they look like.

Based off what you said and looking at photos of the two i'm pretty sure it's lime, it was kinda like dump truck lookin things instead of tractors, followed by a massive white plume going up and out of the back. The plumes looked dense where as the fertilizer photos looked more dusty/fine/spread out. There were separate piles of this stuff it seemed like they were loading the trucks with.

if it was lime, what would that do to cubensis/pans growing in the wild? Same question for the fertilizer, didn't find much good info when i looked it up.

Lime is just a soil amendment and won't affect mushroom production at all. It was common for people to use Gypsum in mushroom cultivation in recent years.

Fertiliser also wont affect mushroom growth. The mycleium lives within the dung, which sits above the soil.


I've manged turf for 15 years and nothing seems to stop mushrooms from growing. Copper based sprays can help limit them, but it needs to be applied frequently. Not something farmers do due to cost and the labour involved.
