Hello everybody! Good to see same users on here again this year! We'be had some interesting start to the thread too, nice but I,m afraid Chronic will have to splash out 100 pounds now. It looks like a liberty cap to me on the newer photos. Experienced hunters know and I have also learned to tell a semilanceata by smell. Some lookalikes smell like wet cardboard whilst the holy ones have nutty smell. Chronic, in which part of UK was this mushroom found? I am going to my Audrey spot tomorrow to check conditions. It has been very dry this summer. Last year seemed very wet. I don't really know what to expect from this season but I know it is going to be interesting for sure. I wonder how - if - this year,s solar maxima could influence fruiting?

Haha I didn't take the bet!

It was found in north west England

Last year I was reading about semilanceata & historical seasons somewhere & there was one particularly good season & they said they thought it was due to the unusually hot summer which I think bodes very well for this year!

I think at least a few weeks for the south maybe even months but you never know the weather is nuts in this country, lots of rain forecast in the coming days...

i wasnt trying to be a douche, sorry the whole thing was douchey...

a lot of species have the stuffed pith. i just dont want anyone going out there and eating an inocybe that growing in their lawn because it looked like a young lib and had a stuffed pith...

Nah Joust, I completely get you; I'm unaware at the amount of mushrooms with the stuffed pith. I'm just sure that no close lookalikes have it  You weren't being a douche!

They were found on a very small lawn, surrounded by pasture land, at about 200m

Last year seemed like it was too wet. A lot of places were waterlogged.

Yeah definitely few more weeks for the south, last year I had my findings throughout October.

This year I am planning to go to Peak District at least once and I'm guessing September is the best time to pick there?

I reckon so, I found my first ever lib at the peak district around september, unfortunately it had been dry for weeks when I went camping & I found literally one sole lib at the top of a peak where the clouds had left some moisture passing through

I'm planning at least one trip up north next month myself, there's no way I can wait til October/Nov for my favourite time of the year, I was still finding the odd few in the south in January this year, I fancy a trip to Norfolk aswell, there was a poster on here last year that was finding fields with thousands in them week after week up there

I reckon a Wales trip might be in order aswell

Great to see they're starting to show in the uk.
Were they found high up in the hills? I usually find the early ones above 300 metres.
I've been looking plenty, but none so far. Can't wait to get out there looking again at the weekend.

Still seems a bit early. I'm heading up to the Welsh mountains this weekend, do I have any chance of success?

It's nice to see we have ourselves a new Liberty Cap thread for the year 2013. I must admit, since I had such a dead awful year in 2012, I'm hoping to make up for it this year entirely. Now that I've got my car back, I'm planning on taking some time off work to go exploring and pick the best fields that I can see around.

Speaking of time of work, can anyone recommend some particular dates that they think it'll be prime time for picking this year? Now from previous history, I considered taking the first week off in October, but I'm happy to go with other, more experienced users advice. Either way, I'm really looking for some days off when we can feel pretty comfortable that Liberty Cap season will be in full effect. So people, any suggestions?

Oh, and before I forget, let's make this one of our best years people! :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2:
