-spores to grain is a crapshoot because spore syringes are inherently dirty

-corn isn't really a preffered grain by to many people anymore

Those are the bullet points haha

Spores to grain is a bad idea because grains are very nutritious and contaminate easier than of tek, so using a string is a bad idea because most syringes have atleast bacteria, not to mention mold Spores. Spire prints are dirty because they're grown in open air, so mold spores get on the gills and mix with mushrooms spores on the print. So if u germinate ur spores on agar, u can separate clean mycelium from contamination b4 noccing up ur jars and wasting a bunch of hard work. Tu comprehendo papi?

well, shitgoddamn!  I thought this has been very interesting.  have a bag of oats myself that I suspect had been treated with some sort of fungicide.  tried everything 2hrs at 20psi.  even did double sterilizations.  the grain never had a bacterial smell but the myc would colonize for about a week and then die off.  only thing that helped was buying a different brand.

Interesting, another member had a similar experience with oats.

Again, I invite you guys to ACTUALLY READ THE DOCUMENTS.

Fungicides are not listed in the grain treatment, only insecticides.  On top of that, the insecticides used quickly break down and are quite ineffective or even present by the time the grain reaches us.

Further, they list moisture content of the grain at storage as their fungal control.

Reading, it sure beats speculation.

Of course the grains can still be sprayed with a plethora of fungicides Mr Piggy. Perhaps not at storage, or perhaps so but obviously crops can be sprayed with fungicides. And different crops get different fungicides. There is a bazillion approved fungicides that farmers can spray. And it is entirely possible that the insecticides also have an effect on the mycelium. There is definitely something fucky going on with the oats available near me one way or the other.

Kinda surprised nobody's said anything about spraying endospore forming bacillus as a natural pesticide. Bacillus can be used as both a fungicide and insecticide. It's also 100% natural, making it one of the most commonly used pesticides for food grade agriculture. This is one of the reasons why I always bitch about big grains containing bacteria. I haven't considered fungicides, but they're really getting phased out lately for more natural options.

Bacillus thuringiensis is commonly used as an insecticide due to the δ-endotoxins produced by them. Bacillus subtilis is another very common contaminant in this hobby that is also unbelievably common when it comes to fungus treatments. Both of these extremely common bacteria's are endospore forming and both have potential to survive a PC, if they are given an environment that doesn't get up to temperature for long enough, like potential air pockets in the jar.

Okay, this is going to be a shock, but pesticides are not stable once applied.

The have a half life, they break down.

By the time the grain reaches you that fungicide would be very much past gone.

What you are doing right now is blind speculation.  The documents you presented refuted the argument you made instead of supporting it.  Keep running with incorrect information if you want, but you'll draw incorrect conclusions from it.

Bacteria does not have a half-life dude, it's a living organism.
