So.

Sanders is too concerned with his own political agenda? As a politician this seems like it should be his main focus.

His agenda has appeal from working class voters who want everyone to have a chance? I can’t imagine why that message resonates in a nation with a rigged economy and record inequality.

Quote:
We really require multifaceted politics in America to remain free and defended.

Just not Sanders’ kind of politics, right?

Well the idea of democratic socialism echo's 1960s radicalism.  People are afraid of LSD and rightfully so.  People went all sorts of directions.

I think people want a good commander in Chief and Sanders seems to want to weaken the Military.  That's a subversive tactic.

I don't know when Sanders took the acid.

He’s the most popular politician in the country. You can’t complain that people are ignorant for buying into his agenda and then claim people don’t buy into it.

And fwiw Sanders’ brand of “socialism” would be centrism in practically every other Western democracy.

People buy into it because they took the drugs.  Then the far right is afraid of those drugs for what of them-self they may realize.

I've taken the drugs and it didn't add clarity to whom I thought I was.  It subverted me from being someone who others wanted me to become.

I was just going to be a Soviet target.  Oddly enough there is a high probability I still am.

I just don't think things are looking good for the next election.  We have  a crap game of candidates.  I think they all try to be people pleaser.

Also I agree it’s total horseshit how these political candidates will try to appeal to voters in the run up to the election. Fuckers.

So maybe he needs to clarify the terms "social programs" and "socialism" because the MSM won't do it for him.

His stump policies are all wildly popular. I don’t think he needs to clarify anything.

Sometimes I think Sanders should be a little more popular in Congress.  He's kinda of a nobody.  But he's growing in popularity.

I think the socialist part just spooks the military.  I heard once, not sure if it's true, that there are tapes with the Soviets and US Leadership (at one time) to both become socialist countries by a certain date.

Who knows for sure?

I think if he can avoid the label of "socialist" it would help his chances, especially if what he's suggesting doesn't make him a socialist.

Why would he do that?

Democratic voters prefer socialism to capitalism

To get a larger pool of voters that are in the center or Republican.

He doesn't have to win over liberal Democrats, he needs more of the center and center right.

He also needs to stop the identity politics stuff as well, you can't sell unity with social programs and create division at the same time.

I don’t know where y’all get this idea that you need to appeal to “the center” to win nationwide elections.

First of all, you’re conflating independents with centrists, which isn’t a thing.

But more importantly, Bernie doesn’t need to win over republicans to win. Less than half of this country votes. To win the presidency you simply need to convince people to turn out and vote, Bernie clearly has the grassroots support, and agenda, to do that. Hell even a majority of Republicans like his ideas.

If you really believe that appealing to the center is the way to the White House, explain to me how Trump got elected with LESS votes than Mitt Romney (who lost in 2012). Is Trump more of a centrist than Romney? Or did Trump just convince more people to turn out and vote than Hillary did?

And as far as the idpol stuff, if there’s people out there who see social justice as being divisive, then fuck those people he doesn’t need their votes either. They’re all going to vote GOP regardless (or not vote at all).

I respectfully disagree.  I believe that identity politics have a tendency to alienate folks from each other who would otherwise be political allies.

Depends on what identity politics we’re talking about.

“Build the wall”
“Black lives matter”

Both identity politics.

Doing the dab on Ellen and carrying hot sauce? Idpol.

Pretending to be an evangelical Christian and bemoaning abortion rights? Idpol.

If people are turned off by Bernie advocating rights for trans people and minorities they can just ignore that (like they do with the glaring issues surrounding every other candidate) and focus on the things they like about him instead.

I think we should focus on class over race, as it IS more unifying. But ignoring what the right calls “identity politics” (acknowledging problems that don’t apply to straight white Christian men) is a slap in the face to those groups. And for what? The off chance that some republicans will suddenly vote democrat? Nah. Like I said, Bernie doesn’t need those people’s votes to win.

And just to round out this point, this idea that qman (and the beltway pundits) push about how Democrats need to move right in order to win is absolute horseshit, and only serves the interests of the ruling class.

40% of voting age citizens don’t vote. Bernie’s message is engaging those people. Why should we ignore nearly half the country in order to appeal to Republicans, who, and lets be absolutely clear, ARE GOING TO VOTE REPUBLICAN.
