Hah! What is that video, a compounding pharmacy?
I mean if they are using it there it must be alright? On that big grate they even look like they have a couple spots to hang things off of it!

My filter is shipped out tomorrow, I'm still debating using one of these. It's a pretty small filter face, but one of the main points of going smaller instead of larger is so I can move it around, store it if I need to etc.

Hey Bodisatta lemme run this by you if you don't mind

So for this 12 x 24" I'm planning on just using the Dayton 1TDT2 blower that I already have.

It pushes 360CFM @ .8" and about 240CFM @ 1.0".
What has me hesitating though is that is sinks below 200CFM (I forget how low) @ 1.2"
So if it works at 1.0" it shouldn't be powerful enough to add a pre filter?

This is the same blower/filter combination as the Series 1 RR uses in his videos, and I know he liked to add a pre filter directly to the intake. (But Fungi Perfecti.. I dunno)

Strangely enough this is the blower I used in my 18 x 24" that had me so confused why it seemed to be working so well even with a pre filter on.
Stropharis used the 1TDT2 in his 18 x 24" too and his seemed to worked well too.
My conclusion is that maybe the 18 x 24" filter works at .8" and that's why that blower worked passably (at the suggestion of Blindingleaf I started only leaving the pre filter in while scrubbing the room, not working). 
If that is the case with the 12 x 24 then it should work quite nicely with a decent pre filter attached.

How do I figure out which Static Pressure each filter works at for laminar flow? .8", 1.0" 1.2" etc?

The filter will have a non changing static pressure given a certain flow rate. The static pressure only increases from clogging up over a lifetime.

You need your filters static pressure at 80-120fpm (laminar flow speed)

If your 12x24 filter has a resistance of 1.7" for example at 100fpm then you would need a blower that pushed 200cfm+ at 1.7+ in.w.g. or better

Where do you find those sort of filter specs though? My last filter didn't come with any
Do you have to contact the manufacturer ?

Hey Bod so I heard back from FP , this is what they said:

" Micron Filter that you have ordered is a 24x12x5.8 minipleat
The static pressure is 1.00
Rated CFM*: 528/564
Weight: 10.6
Blower to Match: EAFB1 (Dayton 1TDT2)

*Rated CFM indicates the minimum rate of air flow needed for proper filtration."

So the Static Pressure is 1.00", and the blower they recommend is the blower I have, the Dayton 1TDT2.

So at 1.0"sp , it pushes 240CFM. So that's cool, it's 20% above 200CFM.
But not with a pre filter, that's my concern. If it really brings it up to 1.2" it drops way down to like 100CFM.

People don't seem to have problems with the Series 1, I know RR didn't, and he taped a pre filter to the intake.

What do you think man, based on this, should I build with what I have or buy a bigger blower?

Rated CFM isn't the minimum needed for filtration. If that was true you would be running your 12x24 at 550cfm which is 275fpm out the front which isn't laminar. Laminar flow is achieved between 80-120fpm face velocity. Rated cfm is what they ran it at to scan test it if its from flanders(probably is re-sold flanders)

That blower is fine but maybe too slow 5 years from now when the hepa itself has clogged a bit. But good prefiltration may negate that completely.

Yea man that asterisked bit about Rated CFM was from what they said in the email, not me haha. Confusing statements like that are why I'm always dubious about what FP tells me :lol:

Yea so I'll slap a decent pre filter on this guy. That's what I've really been worried about, that the blower can handle one with this HEPA

Most come with outlets in the work area like that. It's usually standard and not an upgrade option.

I guess you could plug in one of those electric sterilizers there, or a light of some sort I dunno

So I am still wondering if I can pull off using like a Filtrete type pre filter with this blower. Most people with it do, FP said it's fine etc. It pushes 20% over at 1.0" (240CFM) but the graph shows such a big drop above 1.0"-  at 1.2" it drops to around 100CFM
Wouldn't that be unacceptable?
