Micron Magic Filter Discs
    #518699 - 01/12/02 05:42 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I just started using micron magic filter discs on my quart jars of rye, following the instructions on their website. 8 days later... 4 of the 20 jars are 100% colonized and two of them started pinning inside the jar! The other jars are coming along nicely...most are around 80% colonized. Lost a couple of jars to the green...but that is expected. I didn't think they would work quite so good as they looked too thin..but I was surprised.
I got some plastic lids with holes in them, using in conjuction with the filters...I put a filter under the lid and innoculated through the hole and then taped a small piece of filter over the hole. I would like to glue the filters on the holes of the lids...what kind of glue should I use? I am worried about the pressure cooker melting the glue...or is that irrational?

Anyway, just wanted to give a thumbs up to Micron Magic for their cheap and very convenient filters. The pre drilled plastic lids are great too.. I don't know what it is about them...but I really like them.
Thanks

Head over to Home Depot or Lowes and check out their glue selection, its absoultely humungous. Plus, each product lists its particular limits with heat and water etc... Just take ya time and take a look, I guarentee you'll find the glue to fill the job.

Peace
